It doesn't make sense that a handful of people with power to open up a portal to any place wouldn't have been able to take down Thanos quickly and easily. Every step could have dropped him into a harsh environment (the Sun?!), or dropped an incredible weight on his head. Even without that, a portal could have been opened where his hand was exposed and glove was stolen. Makes no sense
