The UK could introduce visa travel bans - similar to those imposed in the U.S. by President Trump - blocking visitors from countries refusing to take back illegal migrants from Britain. The Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is expected to announce the plans in the Commons today - in what's being described as the biggest shakeup to the asylum system in modern times. In her address to MPs, she will outline details on changes to human rights laws and speeding up deportations of illegal migrants. Richard Gaisford reports.

The Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has said that asylum seekers who break the law or work illegally are to be thrown out of Government-funded accommodation and lose their support payments. Speaking at an event in London, Shabana Mahmood also said that a small number of failed asylum seekers will be offered an “increased incentive payment” of £10,000 per person to leave Britain under a pilot scheme. The Home Secretary said the Government would seek to echo reforms introduced in Denmark.
