Matiang’i is not a saint, and Kenyans should not rewrite history just because political circumstances have changed. His record as Interior CS deserves scrutiny, including the government’s handling of court orders and the security forces’ conduct during periods of political unrest. The deaths and abuses associated with the 2017 election period cannot simply be wished away. Baby Samantha Pendo, Chris Msando, and other Kenyans lost their lives, while serious allegations of police brutality and excessive use of force were documented. Human Rights Watch has also criticized the failure to hold those responsible for abuses during that period accountable. So, before anyone starts presenting Matiang’i as some spotless political messiah, let’s remember the record and ask the difficult questions. Hahaha, which party? Jubilee died a long time ago. Matiang’i should have come out, rebranded himself, and formed his own party. He has crawled for too long.
