In most cases, its the responsibility of the parents to take care of the child but we have seen occasions where parent or someone who's so close to the child had driven over the child as they couldn't see the child. So, its essential for car drivers to know the risk and develop a strategy to minimize the risk.

We cannot react to a hazard, if we can't see them. Why can't drivers see them? Blind Zones around the car cover a large area, which most drivers are unaware. The larger the car, the larger the hidden area.

Though we cannot fully address the problem, I wanted to develop and share a structured approach that helps everyone to avoid or minimize such crashes. Once we know the risk, we take better care. Based on my analysis of all blind spot crashes with small children, below are the key observations : 1. All the crashes occur in residential areas, narrow streets, parking lots 2. The speed of the car is less than 10 kmph in all cases 3. The car is either in a stopped state or moving slowly before it crashed into the child 4. Majority of the crashes occur on the front as the car is moving forward 5. The Child is either alone or with a busy parent 6. The height of the child is less than 2-2.5 feet

In any vehicle there are 3 important areas which every driver needs to be aware of. 1. Direct Vision - The area that is directly visible to the drivers 2. Indirect Vision - The area that is visible through mirrors 3. Blind Zones/Spots - The area that is neither visible in mirrors nor can be seen directly

What are Blindspots ? Blind spots are the areas around the vehicle that we can’t see using our mirrors or by looking directly ahead. These invisible zones can be dangerous because they hide other vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles from your view. Several factors contribute to the creation of blind spots. The vehicle’s shape, window pillars, and head restraints can all obscure the view. In this thread, we are focusing only on the front blind zones as the knowledge of it is very critical to avoid crashes with small children, pets in residential areas.

Front of a vehicle is a huge blindspot and not many drivers are aware of it. There are many tests done in the US but unfortunately not in India. To understand and demonstrate, how big is a front blindspot, I had tested it in my apartment with few of my friends and results are surprising. I had tested with 4 vehicles and I will share the testing procedure so that you can do it yourself for your vehicle. Test Vehicles : 1. Skoda Slavia 2. Ford Ecosport 3. Kia Seltos 4. Tata Safari

Measurement approach : To perform this test, we took drivers of average height ( 5.5 feet ). A traffic cone ( 1 feet length ) is kept at ground level and drivers are asked to sit in their normal driving position and drive backwards until they see the spot where the cone meets the ground. They should stop the car the moment the base aligns with the windshield wipers. Below are the results.

As seen above, the front blindspot ranges from 12 feet to 24 feet, which is a huge area and easily a kid or a pet can be hidden inside them. Now, we have seen incidents where drivers are turning left or right and then ran over a kid, who's playing on the road. In our given road and city design, unfortunately its very difficult to separate play areas and vehicle pathways. So, how to minimize risk as we turn left or right? Now we know how big is the blindspot area, we should effectively scan the area before we turn. Once we turn without looking, we cannot always say that, we haven't seen the child. As seen below, before we make a turn, we should scan the area ( green triangle ). If the intersection is having visibility issues, stop, look and proceed.

To conclude, below are some safety tips we can follow to reduce front blind spot accidents. 1. Recognize that blind spots exists. 2. Identify the front blind zone area for your vehicle using the above procedure. 3. Walk around the vehicle before making a move 4. If there are any kids, ensure that they're under someone's supervision and make sure you see them clearly and they're away from our blind zones. 5. Keep kids seated in the car safely and then move Tips to teach our kids : 1. Teach your kids to observe vehicles in parking lots but never rely on them to keep themselves safe. 2. It takes just a few seconds to call it a disaster, so take no chances. 3. Just because the kid can see the driver, it doesn't mean the driver had seen the kid as well. 4. Parked vehicles can move any time. Ask kids to check for the presence of driver, engine sound, vehicle lights, smoke etc and ask to stay away from those vehicles. 5. Assume that the driver had not seen the kid. 6. Never walk on front or behind a vehicle. 7. Never play in parking lots without adult supervision. 8. Green number plates are EV and they don't make any sound and always check for driver presence. 9. Finally, just because the driver knows how to drive a car, it doesn't mean he knows, how to see and where to see to reduce risk.

When the top of the traffic cone is visible like this, the distance from the bonnet to the traffic cone is 11 feet. Never ignore the front blind spot. Also,do not sit in the driver seat like a statue, move your head to have a different POV to reduce blind spots. @RSGuy_India

#WATCH | Delhi: At the joint press conference with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, EAM Dr S Jaishankar says, "India would be one of the very few countries who has very good relations, very strong relations with the United States, with Israel, with Iran, and with the Gulf countries. So we have real interest there. For us, the challenge in this situation is how to maintain all these relationships, how to protect our equities, how to advance our interests. We don't look at it as a zero-sum game. We have to manage and take care of all these accounts. I would say there are some general principles by which we would approach this region. Obviously, we want peace and stability in the region. For us, the welfare, the well-being of the diaspora is crucial. We want to see energy prices go down because we are a very big importer of energy, and much of it comes from that region. As I stated in my remarks, we are very much in favour of safe and unimpeded maritime commerce through the region. What we want to see is really the markets open up there. We don't want to see constraints. So these would be the principles with which we would approach that region and in a way, I think we will find increasingly in the world that there will be conflicts or difficult situations where India, because our interests are growing, we have relationships with all the parties involved, and we are seeing this in the Ukraine conflict as well, where we have very strong relations with Russia, Europe, Ukraine as well, we have it with the United States and then the question is how do you manage all of them. So in that sense, yes, it is multi-alignment because today's India has that range of interests which require us to manage multiple accounts."

VP VANCE PREDICTED: PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET ANGRY, AND RIGHTFULLY SO "This stuff we can and we should prosecute, and I'm just telling you, this is going to be a real problem, and the people are going to get really pissed at Senate Republicans if we don't have the U.S. attorneys on the ground to actually achieve justice. People are going to get angry, and rightfully so." If you want justice, you've got to empower the President of the United States to actually appoint the officers of justice all over the country. The Democrats are stalling that, and we're going to wake up in a couple of years, if we don't have more U.S. attorneys approved, if we don't have more judges approved, we're going to wake up in a couple of years and realize that we've done a lot of great work at the Trump administration, but justice is not being meted out as it should be because we don't have the people on the ground. That is a big problem, and I know that's somewhat unrelated to Arctic Frost, but it actually is related to Arctic Frost, because you cannot get the justice for the people who are targeted by the Biden administration unless we've got good people, especially in these U.S. attorneys offices, and that's something we've got to pay attention to over the next year. Spying on President Trump, prosecuting him, investigating senators, congressmen, and congressmen who are just aligned with the President of the United States some of this stuff is going to get covered by statute of limitations, but some of this stuff we can and we should prosecute, and I'm just telling you, this is going to be a real problem, and the people who watch your show are going to get really pissed at Senate Republicans, excuse my language, if we don't have the U.S. attorneys on the ground to actually achieve justice, people are going to get angry, and rightfully so. #WATCH | Delhi | Arjan Meijer, President and CEO, Embraer, says, "Embraer is very proud to stand here today. We're very, very pleased to sign our MOU with Adani. We see a bright future ahead of us here in India, and we believe the stars are aligning to advance the Make in India initiative. We believe there's a huge opportunity here with regional aircraft... In India, the current outstanding fleet we have today is around 800 units. But if you look at the backlog, we're looking at around 1,700 aircraft for the years ahead. But the regional part of that fleet is very small. So we really believe that, to develop India from within, the country needs a smaller-gauge aircraft to really help drive the country's GDP... The regional segment of jets is completely missing. If you see what the potential is in a country like India... So that's why we believe really that together with Adani we can work together with a goal to build the aircraft here in India, the exact aircraft type to be defined, so we will come back on that, but we are talking up to an assembly line, testing, delivery. We really believe in a partnership with Adani because they're very strong in supply chain, MRO, and pilot training, so we believe that, together, we can develop a very strong aviation ecosystem here in India. And of course, beyond that, we're very interested to work also with the Indian industry for much deeper localisation. We need to build our supply chain, and we believe that here in India, we can also do that with Indian partners ahead of us. So a potential first regional assembly line in India, that's what we're looking at here. We're very bullish about making that happen... But as I said, we want to develop the indigenous market over the years to make this a made-in-India aircraft. And that will allow India to really connect the second-tier and the third-tier cities in India. We know there's a lot of demand from smaller cities wanting to be connected to the bigger aerospace system. This will bring not only regional connectivity, this will bring economic and environmental benefits. It will facilitate business and trade across the country. We are very certain that we will boost tourism across the country and of course for every Indian provide everyday accessibility. So we believe the opportunity ahead of us is huge. And we're proud to be here today to announce the partnership with Adani, and we really look forward to making this a very successful future together here in India."
