the reaction time gap is the whole thing. It registered the threat before your nervous system even could. That's the autonomy that actually works

Basically you were lucky, if the driving lessons hadn't experienced this type of event it might not have the correct action. When cars are communicating to each other, the unknown experience should clear up.
