My God, what the fuck happened to male skating ? This is so good. Whoever started just the jumping bullshit but bad skating needs to be arrested immediately !

AGREED wholeheartedly (nathan chen’s capital sin)

@Gear_Kats That's how the sport evolves. Everyone wanted to do triple jumps first, then quads. Nathan was the most successful of his era.

@Gear_Kats the problem with nathan was the fact he understood his second score would be inflated to begin with cause he wanted to push the new gen of jumpers, so he maximized jumps and completely let go skating skills, transitions, composition, spins etc.

@Gear_Kats No, he did not let the other elements.

@Gear_Kats well

Kinda refreshing watching skating during the 6.0 era, that step sequence is a work of art

so true

so great to see and remember this. before programs were just formulas regulated by points and requirements. how much more exciting it was. wow. those strait line footwork sequences were spectacular. someone should do a montage of the best of the best of them.

agreed on the formulas issue :,) another favorite of mine is sasha cohen’s swan lake but I think they were already testing the scoring system

and this

Also the step sequences for Racing. Best I can remember he only skated this once before he retired because of his hip.

Is it too conservative to want change of scoring so step sequences and spins have more BV points and jumps less? 🥲 or just bring back that mandatory skating skills thing

i am a huuuge advocate for rasing the base value of the stepsequence

sasha cohen's swan lake and malaguena, tatsuki machida's east of eden and firebird, katarina witt's carmen, jason brown's riverdance!

If 90% of the current men's field tried to do this they would fall flat on their faces

Yagudin's 3A was huge

The kind of skater that could have probably landed a quad axel if he was born in the current generation

Possibly the best men’s skater of the 6.0 era.

the ice coverage on his stsq is insane

straight line footwork >>>

@wglegendspt2 Goddamn that spin is so centered

That was so fucking good! We need to bring the "figure" in figure skating back!

Like yes watch it but watch it with the knowledge that Alexei has made explicitly homophobic comments about Jason Brown and is probably quite homophobic lol

Yagudin was my GOAT. I know other fans differently. I didn't know about his comments 😫

Sadly we don't personally know athletes and we can't be sure about how morally correct any of them is. This doesn't change the fact he was a great skater! We can appreciate their skills while also condemning their words when needed

one of my fave 2000s skaters, such a shame about his personality now tbh🙁

This is the best men short program of the Olympics only behind obviously

Beautiful child memory 🥹

Yagudin was the GOAT

The most interesting thing about 6.0 era is that so many skaters actually had good technique despite it not being valued as much as today. Jumps looked so much better and higher

His 2001 SP to Revolutionary Etude... stunning.

This one and iron mask or whatever that free skate was - absolute classic

He wasn’t just artistic he was art on his own

Wow, not even vaguely boring, I don’t watch figure skating normally I find it so dull compared to ice dance

So good. A work of art!

6.0

One of the best programs ever..

It’s not Ilia

What happened to ice skating these days. Bring bsck the Russians.
