I honestly don't get it. As a white dude of English descent I wouldn't have the slightest problem with someone asking about my ancestry - no one does because no one really gives a shit about white people's ancestry. I just will never understand how it is we decided that it's offensive to be curious about someone's heritage.

I work with a lot of immigrants. We have this conversation all the time. They rarely ask me where my family is from. I offer the information. Something I find interesting is that black people from America get really offended if you ask them if they've had a DNA test.
