In Full Metal Jacket (1987), Animal Mother's helmet bears the words "I AM BECOME DEATH," inspired by J. Robert Oppenheimer's famous quote after the first successful atomic bomb test: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." Despite his brutal appearance, Animal Mother represents the kind of soldier who has been completely transformed by war, becoming more of a fighting machine than an ordinary human being. He remains one of the film's most memorable supporting characters, alongside Joker, Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, and Private Pyle.
