This means they are able to live on very polluted ground. But they an important help for cleaning up soil contaminated with pollutants which are dangerous to humans too. It’s thought there are about 3,500 species of woodlice in the world. They have 14 legs and an outer shell called an exoskeleton. When a woodlouse grows too big for its exoskeleton it has to moult to allow a new shell to take its place. Most woodlice are found on land, but their ancestors used to live in water and woodlice still breathe using gills. They eat rotting plants, fungi and their own faeces, but, interestingly enough, they don’t pee. A family in Australia has remained defiant in selling their nearly 5-acre property in the last few years as developers have been forced to build around them. Most recently, they declined a whopping $50 million offer for their home. Slap bang in the middle of a new-build development in The Ponds area near the city of Quakers Hill, the Zammits have indicated they cannot put a price on their beloved home. It’s a stark contrast to the adjacent rows of newly constructed houses that surround their longtime property. Their neighbors have praised their resilience as they enjoy the cul-de-sacs that this in-the-middle property creates by staying put, rather than having a typical through street. “The fact that most people sold out years and years ago, these guys have held on. All credit to them,” Taylor Bredin, an agent with Ray White Quakers Hill, told the outlet. Bredin estimated that the land could accommodate up to 50 houses, with each subdivided 3,200-square-foot block potentially fetching a million dollars each. Diane Zammit, 51, previously spoke to the outlet and reminisced about the area’s past, describing it as “farmland dotted with little red brick homes and cottages.”“Every home was unique and there was so much space — but not any more. Brewing a Better Bite of Meat Here’s why we led the Series A of The Better Meat Co., announced today. I am a meat eater, but I know that eventually, we won't slaughter animals for meat. Although we believe this is inevitable, on Earth and Mars, it takes concerted effort to get us there. And as we saw with electric cars, you have to have a better product to catalyze a change. Saving the world is the byproduct. After investing in some of the pioneers of cellular ag and precision fermentation, we pondered what problem remained unsolved by the mainstream approaches to slaughter-free meat and began a quest for the best cost economics and speed of scaling. For cellular ag and plant-based approaches, cost has been their biggest challenge, and the meat market is highly price elastic. We did a thought experiment: given all of the approaches to alt-protein out there, which will be the lowest cost 50 years from now? We assumed all R&D efforts reach their ultimate end points by then. I think we found the winner: Better Meat goes from seed to harvest in under 17 hours! No plant or animal can compete with that growth rate. The key: growth from cell expansion instead of cell division, part of the magic of the kingdom of fungi. And they have mastered continuous production off simple sugar feedstocks with no waste stream. The only downstream processing is some dehydration. At their current research scale facility, they already beat beef on cost, and soon chicken. Some of the key drivers from their patented process: fastest growth cycle of any organism, continuous production, minimal downstream processing (unlike plant protein isolates, for example, where most of the plant biomass is byproduct), and it’s a nutritious whole food. It’s also shelf stable at room temperature for easy shipping. So, it should scale more rapidly and cost-effectively than other approaches can ever achieve. Oh, and it is delicious and tastes like meat, even better than pure meat in some blended product taste tests (think hamburger or sausage blends). They are a B2B ingredient supplier, and the first to get FDA and USDA approval for blended meat products. Rio de Janeiro just became the first city in the world to start reforesting itself with AI drones and the more i read about how it works the cooler it gets: the reason a city would even need this is that dead land is brutally hard to bring back when cattle farming or mining wrecks a piece of land, the soil turns hard and dry and basically dies. left alone it can stay like that for decades the only fix used to be huge crews planting seedlings by hand. one person covers about a hectare a day. at that pace a real forest takes years and a fortune, so most wrecked land just stays dead the company Rio hired is called MORFO. their answer is one drone plus an AI model doing the work of that entire crew it starts with the drone scanning the whole area from above from that scan, the AI studies the soil, the water, the slope, the plants already growing nearby it uses all of that to pick which native species have the best shot at surviving in each exact spot, choosing from a catalog of 300+ local plants once it knows what goes where, the drone flies back over and fires biodegradable seed pods into the ground, 180 every minute each pod holds seeds, nutrients, moisture. a little starter kit for surviving in dead soil flying like that, one drone covers up to 50 hectares a day. the work of a 50-person planting crew and it actually works. they tested it on Brazilian pasture that years of cattle farming had killed. a few months after planting, that same land had grass, bushes, small trees growing again the system keeps learning after the drones leave too. satellites watch what actually grows back, so each new project starts smarter than the last my favorite detail: the AI even decides where NOT to plant it left 16% of one 8,420-hectare site untouched because it detected the forest there was already regrowing on its own easily one of the coolest AI applications i've seen this year

this is a tribute post to share the legacy of an artist whose work has changed my life and inspires me everyday, Jun Seba aka Nujabes. Born February 7, 1974, Nujabes was a music producer & DJ from Tokyo, Japan. He came from a family of music lovers and his father’s admiration for jazz served as an inspiration to Seba at a young age. He pursued his education at a Fine Arts school and the people in his life influenced him to explore the vast wonders of what music really is. In a 2003 interview with Sound & Recording Magazine, Seba said… “I started making tracks because I wanted to hear music that sampled the old soul and jazz I liked.” Nujabes in his early years discovered Hip-Hop and was enamored by the art of DJ-ing and breakdancing. Hip-Hop culture was being brought to life in the USA, but its influence seeped across the world and it started to gain popularity in Japan at the time as well. Seba went on to become a crucial figure in Japan’s underground Hip-Hop scene as a DJ, co-creating a label called ‘Hydeout Productions’. His love for music stemmed beyond just creating it. He had his own record store, which he spoke about in the aforementioned 2003 interview. “I recently started up a record store, Tribe, which I see as an extension of Hydeout Productions. Everything at the store is stuff I went and bought overseas myself, and my hope is for people to come in, listen to old records at their leisure, and hopefully feel inspired by those records to make good tracks themselves. That’s another thing I would like to cherish doing in the future—creating those sorts of encouraging environment” This was a genuine testament to the pure love Nujabes had for music and the community that is built as a result. This passion is what fueled the masterpieces we listen to today and it is the reason for him revolutionizing Hip-Hop production. One of his greatest achievements, in my opinion, was his contribution to the soundtrack of ‘Samurai Champloo’ alongside Fat Jon. This soundtrack set Nujabes on center stage. With a fusion of traditional Japanese musical influences, everything he learned as a student of Hip-Hop, and his early love for Jazz music, Nujabes created a new soundscape which set the tone for this acclaimed show, but also epitomized his brilliance as a musician. At a recent Nujabes tribute performance, longtime collaborator and a friend of Nujabes, Fat Jon, said a few words about him… “Our friendship went beyond music. And so yeah, we had fun making music, but we had more fun just doing regular shit in life… Nujabes as a person, separated from the music, he was a cool person.” You can tell everyone that has worked with or around Nujabes has a deep, unwavering admiration for him as a musician, but also as a person and a friend. Although his contributions to the soundtrack shot Nujabes to fame, his discography of solo music is what cemented his legacy as a pioneer of modern music. From his debut ‘Metaphorical Music’, to his most critically acclaimed work ‘Modal Soul’, Nujabes was able to create entire soundscapes by blending all the different things that made him love music in the first place. It would be a disservice to not mention his friends and frequent collaborators who had invaluable contributions to his work. Copepods, could stop climate change 5 gigatons of these 1mm-sized zooplankton called COPEPODS live in all the world’s Oceans. This is equivalent to 17 million 747 jets, and if you laid the jets end to end, they would go around the planet 31 times. The copepods migrate from around 200m below the ocean surface every night to feed on plants (phytoplankton) at the surface. It is the greatest mass migration of animals on the planet, and it happens twice a day. The vertical motion of the copepods moves just about as much water as the moon and the tides. The copepods eat 30 times more carbon than humanity generates from burning fossil fuels, and about 6%, or 3 gigatons, of their dead bodies and poop end up in the world’s largest carbon bank, the Abyss. The Abyss contains 500m to 1000’s of meters thick layer of organic carbon / mineral sludge with an area greater area than dry land on the planet. Yet humanity has wiped out more than 50% of marine plankton productivity over the last 70 years due to chemical and particle pollution. We have also wiped out 50% of Arctic krill, which are just as important. and we are now even contemplating dredging the ocean floor! We would not have had climate change if we had not poisoned and destroyed most of the world’s oceans. By 2045, the destruction will be complete unless we act now to stop the inevitable annihilation of nature and life on Earth. Let’s put things into perspective, in comparison to protecting nature, carbon mitigation, windmills and electric cars are almost a joke. Further evidence that the delivery of Taurus KEPD-350 cruise missiles to Ukraine remains necessary, even in light of Ukraine’s outstanding domestic developments. Since March 2026, the AFU used Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles at least four times against high-value targets. 7th of March 2026 US-supplied ATACMS and French-supplied SCALP-EG were used to heavily damage and destroy a site near the Donetsk Airport which was used by Russia for the storage, preparation, and launch of Shaheds and similar UAVs. 10th of March 2026 British-supplied Storm Shadow were used to strike and severely damage the Kremniy El microelectronics factory in Bryansk. The factory specializes in discrete semiconductor devices and integrated microchips, which are critical parts of various Russian weapon systems like Iskander missiles. 13th of April 2026 to 14th of April 2026 French-supplied SCALP-EG and US-supplied GBU-39 were used to strike and damage OWA UAV storage facilities near the Donetsk Airport. 25th of May 2026 Today, British-supplied Storm Shadows were used to destroy an important enemy command-and-control and communications post in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region. Each of these targets could also have been damaged or destroyed using Taurus KEPD-350. Indeed, the relevance of a delivery of 50 to 100 pieces from Bundeswehr stocks has declined in recent years. However, as we can see, there are still plenty of operational scenarios in which the Taurus can and should be deployed. Since stocks of SCALP-EG and Storm Shadow are not infinite either, a delivery – as promised on several occasions by the German Chancellor – remains absolutely essential. And yes, the German government has invested several hundred million euros in various Ukrainian weapons systems, thereby funding not only the production of those systems but also their further development. These include the An-196 Liutyi, which Ukraine has been successfully deploying for quite some time against targets deep within Russian territory. It’s not as if we do nothing to make such attacks possible. We do a lot. But we could and must do more.
