I had one of these, pretty awesome. Looking back I have no idea how it worked

Always wanted one, but was forced to beat the final boss the old-fashioned way.

The original cheat cartridge, I actually had one of these lol

They couldn't afford Keanu and that other guy, so they got these guys instead. 🤣🤣🤣

Game systems like the NES are computers that load game programs from cartridges. Each game has locations in memory where they store data like lives_remaining. The Genie worked by changing data at memory locations, setting lives_remaining=255 and not allowing it to change.

I've always wanted to get one for the Genesis, but neighbor friends would always say anyone who uses a Game Genie is weaksauce (basically the equivalent of the word in the 90s lol) I never got one and regretted it to this day lol

You had to run a couple practice rounds to set it up. You showed an example of your character “taking damage” and the told the genie to prevent damage from occurring. You’d end up accidentally creating fun and unexpected effects because the genie is guessing what code to change
