Why is this lie being pushed that this conversation is about tribalism ? 😭 It’s not fair. You work hard for years, give it everything, then score 71 marks in your final exams only to miss out. Meanwhile, someone else scores 50 and gets admitted to a better school, a school that’s literally in your own neighborhood. To make it worse, that student is coming from another region over 1,000 km away. Let’s be human for once. Equity was meant to uplift the disadvantaged, not to punish effort. Helping marginalized regions matters no one is denying that. But when the system ignores clear merit, overrides performance gaps, and disadvantages a child simply because of where they were born, that’s no longer fairness. >A child is not a county. >A student is not a region. You don’t correct historical neglect by creating new victims. If a school is in my neighborhood, built with public money, and I’ve clearly outperformed another student, basic human fairness says I should at least compete on equal footing. True fairness would mean: Fixing struggling schools at the source Investing in marginalized areas before exams, not after Using merit first, with equity as a tie-breaker not a bulldozer Right now, the message being sent to hardworking students is dangerous: your effort might not matter. And that’s how trust in the system is destroyed.
