gamers deserve nothing

you can tell rock solid really thinks he deserves to live

>Shoots slower >Hits harder Comprehending basic balancing is beyond science.

do they want everything to be a milsim or something

I LOOOOOVVEEE mil-sims! But I would never ever EVER play one!!!

We deserve 100 years of AAA “moved shit with my mind” slop

Gabe's commentary here perfectly encapsulates what's absent in modern games: Reactivity, we went as far as to remove physics interactions altogether, props are no longer destructible, objects no longer react, but hey, at least it's the squeaky clean UE5 default settings right?

Realism wankers unironically think every shooters should be a Bohemia Interactive milsim and will come shit in your boots if you dare suggest games should be fun and balanced instead of being a 1:1 recreation of life

Sorry bud, gun autists have a point.

do NOT show this clip to WT or DCS niggas

it feels like everyone wants every game nowadays to be a game that’s brought up in a tumblr thread complaining about some minor inaccuracy in video games involving musical instruments or weaponry and being praised for being the one thing that gets it right

this is the first fucking time i've seen this video gets used for "gameplay realism". every other time is when someone mentions "horse testicles" or "shoot gravel terrain and it slides down the slope" or "facial pores"

I'm as racist again rock solid as the next guy but blud have a point this time. In Stalker Anomaly a.k.a. gun autism simulator, with extra modification to let you change the gun caliber, they're actually getting stronger or weaker depend on the caliber. 1/2

stalker anomaly/gamma is a game designed by gamers and resultantly is almost entirely obsessed with "realistic" mechanics that add almost nothing to the core gameplay loop (which doesn't exist in the first place)

The change caliber is in the original game 🐸 It work the same too. That why I can go around killing everything with my mp5 that use 9.18mm which I have 3000 of them 😁

why do people complain about this like i just want bolt actions to feel powerful

Comments in there are really annoying "only 3 games ever got the shotgun right" but they'll ignore the entire world of blades. Why does the Ultima Blade do more damage then the Bastard Sword? Blah blah why anything? Anyway they're called video games and it's called balancing.

nobody tell rock solid how bolt actions actually have desirable advantages over semi autos in real life

If devs went for pure realism instead of balance and fun, most rounds in an FPS game would be over in about 2 minutes, if even that.

Yet they modelled the guns in Half Life after actual existing guns instead of some fantasy laser blasters and magic wands because they wanted it to feel *realistic* enough. I always feel the "it's supposed to be FUN not realistic!!" is a cheap defence, and not a very good one.

If I have to use the bolt each shot and fire slow, then I should be rewarded by having the shot be more impactful. I don't care about the caliber. It could be smaller and I'd still feel the same way. It's fun that way. It's like the glass cannon of the gun world.

Hilarious thing is games have solved gun balance (MP wise). It’s been a dead gotcha talking point for them for decades now. High RoF = high recoil = fast TTK low RoF = low recoil = low TTK Every balance goes off that design but these dudes want ‘realism’ in everything.

One of the most important things to understand, if you want to make sense of modern gaming, is that people don't want "fun", they want "work".

Nah, Rock Solid is right in this.

Yeah that's great and all, but if you're going to design a game around real objects (guns, vehicles) it ruins immersion to add arbitrary rules. Esp if you're going to give the player foresight into game mechanics (bullet type, rpm). Ignorance is bliss

I used to work in QA and this type of thing with the caliber having different HP was stuff we would write tickets for out of desperation because we were behind on the bug quota. It's hilarious there are people who care about it outside a military simulator.

i hate rock solid as much as the next guy but like this like a very common and light hearted criticism in shooters

it’s not so much that it’s unrealistic as it is lazy. there are many other ways that games can balance different guns of same or similar caliber. in fact most games of the past decade do and op is complaining about the vestiges of bad balance, but the complaint’s still valid.

Realism is good when used for immersion, but when it impedes fun, that's when it's a problem (looking at you, kingdom come deliverance)

The goal of game design shouldn't be to make things as realistic as possible but realism is a useful component of the heuristic he's describing. Like the "shooting a wall" example he gives. It would also accomplish the goal of the game world responding to your choices if doing

This lobotomite does not represent 'gamers'. A moron of the most extreme order.

video game realism people when video game balancing people show up

I don’t care if the SPAS-12 can’t double tap irl, I still want the option in video games

Reminded me of this guy who was reminded of something too

Send all Milsim nerds to Labour Camps

@lilium1s just because one old man says realism isn't fun (in the context of 1998 gaming) doesn't mean i can't enjoy it!!!
