@Kasparov63 I still think that the beginning of the end (in Kasparov's sense) started when Fide decided to make the cycle a 2 years one. 3 years had worked well for so long. It has been a way to depriciate the title. Some events (i.e. Olympics, Fifa World Cup) are extremely prestigious

I'm not convinced. Magnus is still the strongest, but he refuses to participate, just because he does not enjoy it anymore, and the effort is not worthy for him. It is not like there is something external preventing him from playing... Rules have not changed much and we would all love to be there. It would be better if he played, but the world deserves a champion. If he does not want to be it, good for him.

@Kasparov63 We can't send the winners of skittles tournaments to the candidates tournament. Let us return to interzonals and candidates' matches.

@Kasparov63 There's not always going to be one completely dominant player that's the best across everything by a mile. The playing field is more even now, with Magnus out of the WC picture. So you see more people in contention. That's not a bad thing.

@Kasparov63 Honestly, if gukesh defends his title. It will be a big slap on critics. If not, like everyone is saying, he's an accidental champion. Probably there are atleast 5 better players than him in classical chess

@Kasparov63 To be fair, the idea of the World Champ always being the best player hasn’t been true since Euwe (and arguably Alekhine, who refused to rematch Capablanca). Smyslov and Tal weren’t better than Botvinnik; and indeed Kramnick wasn’t better than Kasparov himself.
