The New Zealand batter used to sing in the choir at his boarding school and had taken guitar lessons at the age of 10. While sports took centre stage soon in his life, music remained with him throughout his career. During his time with Derbyshire, he would often go to the local pub The Woodlark and play there. The guitar, in fact, remained a constant companion of Wright during his time with Team India as coach and he even wrote a number of songs in that 5 year period. He mentions in his autobiography about writing one of them sitting in a hotel room in Dhaka in 2004 on Christmas when he couldn't be with the family due to his work commitments, aptly titled Christmas Away Blues. After he was done with coaching, Wright decided to finally give time to music and from that came an album titled Red Skies in 2016. Wright has also travelled performing with the band The Sou'Westers in the past few years. Here is Wright performing Red Skies.
