I’ve got some bad news- the auto excise tax increase bill that Maura Healey proposed is making its way through the legislature. This is a bill that would allow cities and towns to triple the auto excise tax. That’s right- it would be a 300% increase. You would potentially be paying 7.5% on your auto excise tax as opposed to the current rate of 2.5%. That would mean the average working family in Massachusetts would be paying thousands more in excise tax when they buy a new car. Massachusetts families are already paying too much.
