multi-speed gearbox is impressive but electric vehicles with single-speed final drive is so much simpler 🤔

I once tried to rebuild my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT’s 5-speed transmission without instructions. It was a headache. Its engineering is really impressive though!

How does the engineers figures out how to make this ?

From a friend who worked in mechanical design, I have heard this as an example of an overly complex structure designed to accomplish a simple function. I remember finding a similar art in a pocket watch I inherited from my grandfather.🤔
