Rajiv Goswami was the first man who immolated himself, followed by 200 others. VP Singh who was responsible for driving them to their deaths, was never convicted of the criminal act. Youngest reported death was Chetan Gautam, who was only 13.

One example from politics. Former Odisha CM Biju Patnaik never allowed Mandal commission to implement in Odisha. Then Navin Patnaik became CM and total reservation was below 20%. After BJP govt came to power in Odisha in 2024, reservation is increased near 50%.

When student protests were just about genuine causes The anti-Mandal protests were a cry of pain from thousands of GC students. Colleges shut down, streets violent &many lives were lost. But there was no abuse,no obscenity for then PM V. P. Singh. Some memories deserve respect.
