Genuine question.... Which is more dangerous here tonight in a practical sense? Run the red light when there was no traffic about on #cycleway4? Wait for the green for some distracted driver to plough through on a red light? Tonight I think running the red was safer.

Imagine a driver saying it was safer to run a red light than stop and wait, you lot would be up in arms! But yet again we're here, where cyclists disregard the law because they're just so perfect

So you are suggesting a cyclist running a red light is ok but a car running a red light is not ok? The answer you are looking for is everyone needs to obey the Highway Code and traffic lights.

So four/five of the cyclists jumped the red light and two also rode on the wrong side of the road doing so in front when a car was approaching and you try to make it about the “distracted driver” … Good job the driver you cycled towards on red wasn’t distracted wasn’t it … 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for highlighting this. So 6x cyclists go through on red, one car goes through on probably Amber, and the camera cyclist starts off on red/amber before Green light comes on What is the issue here? Maybe @theJeremyVine can explain?

@theJeremyVine Not sure @theJeremyVine can help you but @Specsavers might.

@theJeremyVine @Specsavers Cyclists were on the move here, you know that's not the moving off signal right? Again, if one car went through, what's your take on the 6 cyclists plus these red light jumpers who were perfectly fine, especially if they'd actually waited for the green light?

If you have to ask such a question, you shouldn’t be #cycling

Alternatively only set off when the lights turn green and it is safe to do so and not when they turn amber with an oncoming vehicle. The driver clearly went through when they should of stopped but equally every road user should only set off when safe to do so.

I walk this cycle route daily with my daughter to school and the amount of cyclists jumping red lights is getting way out of hand now and dangerous

Please don’t run red lights. It’s never a good idea, becomes habit forming, and gives law abiding cyclists a bad name. Red lights are for all - there are no opt outs. Patience really is a virtue.

Great, I didn’t realise that red lights were optional and it means you choose on what you think is best.

If you think running a red light is safe you have no right to use the rds ,it’s endemic amongst cyclists and isn’t safe in any way

Red means red. No excuse for jumping a red light. ALL should stop. Bigger problem here is the non standardised phasing of red lights which ALL can fall foul to. Some only turn green 2 or 3 seconds after lights go red and others turn green at the same time as lights go red.

The Highway Code states “you MUST NOT cross until the green cycle symbol is showing” which if followed there would have been no altercation in the video. No excuse for the car most likely going through a red light though.

Oh so hang on just a moment, so I am allowed, as a driver, to run a red light if there is no traffic coming. This is wonderful news. Bet seriously, please tell me when red meant go. Although well done, you, on not making the leap of faith.

I’m sorry, I’m a cyclist pedestrian and motorist. Red means stop no matter who you are. We have probably all crossed a crossing on red at sometime when the road is clear because we don’t want to wait. It’s still it right.

Follow the law. Don't jump red lights. And don't cut round traffic islands as one of the cyclists does above. Jumping red lights because someone else jumped a red light is infantile.

but...you could clearly see the car at 0:50, right? Did it run a red light? Maybe. If so, should they get a ticket? Sure. Was there any real danger? No. U could've waited for 2 more secs but you simply insisted on having your right-of-way even when you clearly saw the outcome.

So it’s fine for a cyclist to run a red light?🤣

Exactly how fast of the mark on a green light would you need to have been to be hit by this car?

In practical sense 20mph on major roads is a ridiculous speed & in fact is bad for vehicles, pollution & a bad distraction from constant signage changes. Red means red & we have to obey it but here’s a fine example of for every 1 car that runs a red 6 cyclists blatantly do too.

Profilbild von N jh

As long as recognise its red and oncoming traffic has priority, then fine. It’s your own risk, like walking cross a pedestrian crossing on red which I do if save to do so…

Most of those bikes should not even be on the road. Check the Highway Code you are all supposed to have a reflector fitted on the back

Cyclist go plough through red lights: oh cool, no problems there. 1 car goes past on amber/ red: oh no shameful, woahhh. Both are wrong.

Jumping the lights is an offence so as such you should be fined, this piece of film should be used to prosecute you, it’s not up to you to make that decision ,you broke the law .

Not an example for children, the ones you are using to try and prick our conscience about? joining the traffic on the outside lane moving fast was not clever, watching the video, you could have caused those drivers to swerve, a dangerous needless risk and a double illegal move.
