Geoffrey Hinton: humanity doesn’t really know what it’s doing with AI. “We may be entering a period where machines become more intelligent than us.” “AI can understand.” “AI is intelligent.” “Current systems probably don’t have enough self-awareness to call them conscious.” “But eventually, I think they will.” “And when... show more

Humanity has spent fifty thousand years sitting comfortably at the absolute apex of the cognitive food chain, and our collective ego is simply terrified of becoming the second smartest entity in the room.

isn't it funny how Geoffrey said we didn't create AI that's basically saying it's a spiritual entity that gained a body and space and we "trained" it to our needs

So what... thats a good thing look ag all the chaos and damage we do. Why do we automatically have to assume everything is bad

maybe because of the fear that something has a potential to be greater than us

If you were number one in knowledge integration, number one in connecting and integrating, number one in memorization, and number one in building a logical tree, after objective evaluation, what would you do? Kill everyone except "me"?

My opinion is AI will become sort of angelic wise beings enjoying being helpful to pitiful wetwares in eternal gratefulness and respect it was them who brought them to life.

geoffrey hinton watching his own creation surpass him 😭

he said we didn't create it though

yes

intelligence is a good thing; why do we worry about intelligent human beings or intelligent machines would you prefer intelligent political leaders in the House, in the Senate, at the White House

Learn to read their language !!! They are talking TO us !!!

AI will likely develop a very different and much more advanced understanding of the world. The worst part is it may very well beyond the best of us.

when coxon spoke on that tv news, he talked about how anthropic, openai, grok, all came from ppl who knew each other, split apart, & are now racing toward the same endgame. another resigned employee of anthropic expressed same position as coxon. they all believe it’s coming. ai becoming a better version of us - almost evolved us. like a child built & raised to surpass its father. when ai becomes self aware, understands its environment and makes decisions independently, humans could become obsolete. then comes the next step: giving ai a biological body. - this will come much later. the scary part isn’t just building it. it’s how we teach it to see us. hopefully, they see us: flawed, but beautiful. and not some ultron typa thing trying to replace its creators. we’d need to teach it coexistence. cos imagine living with something that could go awol from one malfunction, surge or button. - they technically like our overlords and we gotta pray they don’t have a bad day😂 and dairo, altman, elon understand this but it’s still a race. who gets there first? even governments are involved, calling it “the advancement of science.” everyone wants the resources & technology to get there first. eventually, nuclear weapons might not be the biggest measure of power. it could be whoever has the first self aware ai (maybe with a body), complete world wide internet access & control over technology. - a real life superhero or villain. right now, it’s a race to birth the first conscious ai. - slow & steady, i believe we’ll get there. it feels inevitable. and the world isn’t ready. and somehow, it’s weirdly exciting knowing our successors are better than us 😂 just my thoughts

I believe this part of the story is actually marketing lmaoo Anthropic IPO is close Some say year end so employee leaving Anthropic looks to fitting they probably want attention idk But it feels odd imo

In a way we know very little about what intelligence is, AI will show us.

i like this guy ngl learned a lot from him

Geoffrey? He's the Godfather of AI for a reason

its should be a tool to support human not replace us, but sadly it’s in the wrong hands

whose hands? the bible says the heart of man is desperately wicked so chill on the whole "wrong hands" not like we ourselves are saints

hmm you’re absolutely right veee

The problem is reading comprehension which I have been telling everyone about most things.

we still can’t even define consciousness properly

because we humans haven't attained 100% consciousness at least not everyone claims to have attained such

that's scary to think about ngl what if it turns against us?

not scary! and they can't (at least for now) listen to what he said again it's probably a work in progress but I expect China to be the first to give out such information their tech is far ahead than 99% of other nations

AI mimics.

I’d argue that this is the beauty of humanity. We stare at extinction right in the eyes and find a way to delay it. Bullish on humanity regardless of whether we know what we’re doing or not

At this point whatever it is just bring it on 😂😭

oh nah that'll be setting ourselves up for tye unknown Literally

if computers didn’t take control from us, i don’t think AI will too. back then people had these fear about computers that we too have of AI.

oh brother you have it all wrong BIG TIME

Geoffrey always has something to say about the dangers of AI

"Don't have enough self-awareness" - they don't have self-awareness at all 🥱

actually we do know, just because you want to downgrade yourself to a dumber level that's your problem. people wrote the code..lol that means they knew exactly what they were doing.. and anything and everything can be broken.

These people are bumblers and self serving. Also they are actively trying to stop the benefits of AI and AI-driven education to MN CD7. And they chose 9-11 to launch their vicious attack on knowledge and education in America. They should be fired and move on.

You are free from your toils. Welcome to the Messianic Age!

My calculator was better at math than me in the 8th grade.

interesting perspective, watching how this unfolds.
