George Benson & Glen Campbell — “Affirmation”

George did a really nice tribute to Glen when I saw him play last year. He covered Wichita Lineman and said that Campbell was the first person to really teach him about the business side of the music biz and how to keep his money. He clearly loved him.

This George Benson and Glen Campbell collaboration wasn't born from a label deal, but from a chance encounter in a studio hallway while both were recording separate albums. 🤔 Fun fact: George Benson didn't want to use his usual guitar for this take; he played a borrowed Ibanez with rusty strings because he felt it gave it a "grittier," more authentic sound. The craziest part? Glen Campbell recorded his acoustic part sitting on a broken stool that creaked so much the engineers had to wrap the legs in duct tape to keep the noise from ruining the final master. Did you know? 🤯

🤯 Glen Campbell grooved with George Benson? There was some free form jazz in there too. Why is this the first I'm hearing this?

Glen was a great guitarist. He gave me one of his Martins eons ago and I treasure that guitar. I've only played it twice since he passed.
