The document lists a Class 6 felony charge against Geordyn Nichole Hayes under Virginia Code § 40.1-103 (CRUELTY/INJURE CHILD; LABOR). This statute bans anyone employing or having custody of a child from willfully or negligently endangering the child’s life or health, placing them in a situation that endangers life/health/morals, or causing overwork, torture, torment, mutilation, beating, or cruel treatment. Penalty: 1-5 years prison or up to 12 months jail and/or $2,500 fine. Disposition is nolle prosequi (charges dropped by prosecutor).

I knew from the picture of the child that there was something wrong. She’s hungry and going through people’s refrigerators because she was starving. She was severely underweight in that photo.

Apparently, the little girl was nonverbal, liked to elope, was on the spectrum, and was drawn to the water. Just like my little one. And when you have a child like that, you can never check out. Or be impaired. Not even for two seconds.
