A negative polarity trans-equatorial coronal hole is visible on the Sun and will connect to Earth with its magnetic field and high-speed solar wind in ~5-6 days. The last geoeffective coronal hole high-speed-stream impact we had perfectly lined up with the Venezuela earthquake doublet (M7.2 & M7.2) and the M7.2 earthquake that hit Japan on June 24th... With the last 2 weeks being dominated by intense solar flare activity, Earth's ionosphere and global electric circuit is already very highly charged, which suggests that this CH HSS impact could act as a stronger trigger than normal upon critically stressed faults. That said, the coronal hole isn't very wide, so Earth won't be embedded in its solar wind for long. Initial forecast range for a significant bump in global seismic activity from this would be July 9-14th.

🛰️ 👀 I spotted over 🇮🇹Italy, during yesterday's Naples earthquake, a cloud formation identical to the one that went viral after the major earthquake in 🇯🇵Japan! 👇 ☁️ A cloud formation remarkably similar to the anvil cloud that went viral after the Mw 7.1 earthquake in Japan was visible in satellite imagery just hours before yesterday’s Mw 4.7 earthquake near Naples, Italy. 📈 Despite the massive difference in earthquake magnitude, the cloud structures are strikingly similar. This highlights a crucial point: ☁️ Cumulonimbus Incus (anvil) clouds are a natural product of intense atmospheric convection. Warm, moist air rises rapidly; upon reaching the tropopause, it can no longer ascend and spreads outward, creating the characteristic anvil-shaped top. After major earthquakes, people naturally tend to associate unusual atmospheric phenomena with seismic activity—a classic confirmation bias. 🚨 7.3 magnitude earthquake rattles Alaskan island, prompting tsunami warning The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the earthquake off Sand Point, Popof Island, which is located in the center of the Alaska Peninsula, at just after 12:30 p.m. local time. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a tsunami warningfor the majority of the Alaska Peninsula, spanning up into the southern-most part of Alaska's mainland toward Anchorage. A major earthquake, capable of causing "serious damage," is considered having a magnitude between 7.0-7.9, according to Michigan Technological University. Only about 10-15 earthquakes of this caliber are reported each year 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Sand Point, Aleutians East, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, at 9:37 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 22 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 7.2 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
