German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius: Germany is going to deliver five additional interceptor missiles called PAC-3 to Ukraine if other supporter countries donate a total of 30 PAC-3s. 30 plus 5, and I am very grateful for that.

As mentioned, I watched the opening remarks of today's Meeting of the UDCG. There were some interesting points mentioned, which I summarized for you. ➡️ The €170 million Germany will provide for air defence ammunition will most likely be used for “critical air defence missiles” (per statement of the British Minister of Defence) ➡️ Per statement by the German Minister of Defence, it sounds like the details of the Patriot deliveries/procurements etc. are to be worked out in the coming days ➡️ Next to the participation of Norway (likely funded Patriot missiles from Bundeswehr stocks) and Belgium (€140 million in funding and the provision of an A400M for transporting US-made equipment to Ukraine), Denmark and Sweden also already joined the German Enduring Action on Air Defence initiative ➡️ According to Pistorius, there are already indications that Germany can significantly top last year's success, which would mean provide a lot more than €1 billion worth of air defence related equipment ➡️ Germany will provide 220,000 rounds of Gepard ammunition to Ukraine at short notice (most likely refers to the 226,000 rounds of HEI-T ammunition which are already contracted — more precisely we are talking about already ongoing deliveries scheduled to last at least until the end of 2026) ➡️ Pistorius once again confirmed what was already officially confirmed some days ago, that Germany is financing the production of Ukrainian-made long-range OWA UAVs ➡️ The first systems (AN-196 Liutyi long-range OWA UAVs) financed by Germany are to be handed over to the AFU in the coming days ➡️ Additional investments and a close technical cooperation between the German and Ukrainian defence industries are planned (we know that Germany will also finance interceptor drones etc.)

German Aid to Ukraine

🚨🇪🇺🇺🇦 Europe is running dangerously low on Patriot interceptors at a critical moment for Ukraine, as Kyiv urgently seeks to reinforce its air defenses ahead of an expected Russian winter offensive, according to Politico. ▪️ Ukraine needs hundreds of additional interceptor missiles, but production of new missiles remains far too slow to meet immediate demand. The ongoing war with Iran has also complicated supplies from the United States, while several of Ukraine's leading European allies now have very few interceptors they can safely transfer. ▪️ Germany has already provided Ukraine with Patriot systems and missiles, but Berlin is increasingly forced to balance Kyiv's urgent requirements against the minimum reserves needed for Germany's own defense and its commitments to NATO. "We are truly reaching the limits of what we can do in this area," said Brigadier General Jürgen Schredl, a senior German Defense Ministry official. ▪️ Germany and other northern European countries are now pressing partners to provide additional military equipment and financial support. Particular attention is focused on Poland, Spain, and Greece, which still maintain stocks of PAC-2 and PAC-3 interceptors. But each faces its own security calculations. Poland is reluctant to further reduce its inventories because of the direct threat from Russia. Spain has shown little willingness to commit additional missiles, while Greece remains cautious about weakening its own air defenses amid its longstanding strategic rivalry with Türkiye. Europe is approaching an increasingly difficult threshold: providing Ukraine with the air-defense ammunition it urgently needs may now require NATO countries to draw down reserves they consider essential for their own security. With Russia expected to intensify missile and drone attacks during the winter, the shortage exposes one of Ukraine's most serious vulnerabilities and reinforces the urgency of dramatically expanding Western interceptor production.
