This post reminded me how the German delegation to the U.N reacted and laughed when President Trump warned Germany in 2018 (!) not to depend on Russian gas for energy. Their contemptuous reaction pretty much sums it all up and explains how 🇩🇪 arrogance destroyed Germany’s own economy!

I think Germans overestimated themselves and underestimated other economies. They fought they were one of the wealthies countries so they can simply make up for the rising costs. This assumption was wrong.

Germany finally saying “we messed up” on energy isn’t shocking instead it’s just the truth catching up. Shutting nuclear too early, betting too heavily on Russian gas, and rushing into a half ready green transition left them with sky high prices and not enough power to keep the system stable. This isn’t about ideology anymore instead it’s physics and economics. You need steady baseload power before you can redesign an entire grid. Germany tried to skip that step, and now they’re paying for the correction. Sometimes reality is the best fact check.

However, we can’t achieve this goal without addressing these two things: 1 - 𝗔𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲-𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀: Over and over again we’ve witnessed a troubling pattern: when nuclear power plants are shut down, they’re replaced by fossil fuels. This transition not only makes governments more reliant on polluting energy imports, but also makes it lot harder to reduce our greenhouse gas emission. Given the urgency of the climate and energy crisis we face today, both of these outcomes are unacceptable. For these reasons we strongly condemn nuclear energy phase-outs and instead advocate for countries to extend the life of their existing nuclear reactors. By doing so, nations can decrease their dependence on fossil fuels, maintain a more sustainable energy mix, and make substantial progress towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. 2 - 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: The WorldBank extends grants for low and middle-income countries to fund various initiatives, including clean energy projects.
