Thomas Sherwood, 36, of Cross Gates, was driving a white BMW M3 at an average of 80mph on the 50mph A63 Selby Road when it collided with a red Seat Mii on 31 August 2022. Georgia, a passenger, died two days later in hospital. Her mum and boyfriend were also seriously injured. Sherwood was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving uninsured. He was disqualified from driving for 14 years and four months. Georgia’s family said nothing can bring her back, describing the overwhelming silence left behind.

The van driver - who had never driven an electric vehicle before - rammed into an iron gate, mounted a flower bed and briefly flew in the air before colliding with Ms Mahomed. Fellow students Irem Yoldas, 28, and Yamin Belmessous, 24, were injured in the crash.
