Ghostbusters - released 41 years ago today - THREAD Dreamt up by Dan Aykroyd whose great-grandfather, an avid paranormal investigator, had written 'A History of Ghosts', this movie was a phenomenon, and remained the highest grossing comedy until 1991. 1/

'Where are you from... originally?' This film was originally intended for an adult audience. The cast were surprised to find that children loved the film as a fun fantasy adventure of scientists battling supernatural threats. Which is why this scene scared the hell out of me. 2/

'They hate this...' Sigourney Weaver wanted to be part of the movie to prove she could do comedy. What she didn't know was most of the film, certainly Bill Murray's lines, would be made up on the spot. She dealt with it beautifully. 3/

'I blame myself.' 'So do I.' Richard Beggs was the sound designer for Ghostbusters. He'd previously won an Oscar for Apocalypse Now. The sound of the Proton Pack starting up is an all-timer. 4/

'He slimed me.' Dan Aykroyd had originally written Ghostbusters as a vehicle for himself and his close friend John Belushi. Belushi died in 1982, but he lives on in the movie. Slimer's face is modelled on John, and the eating is a homage to Bluto from Animal House. 5/

'Who ya gonna call?' This was another awkward moment for parents. The spirit about to give Aykroyd a rude awakening is Kymberly Herrin. A plaster cast tech was afraid to touch her. She grabbed his plaster filled hands, placed them on her breast and told him to get over it. 6/

'Okay, who brought the dog?' Rick Moranis is incredible. This clip, from the moment it starts to the moment he opens the door to the bedroom is one continuous take, the vast majority Rick improvised. Moranis was a force of nature. 7/

'Do you want this body?' 'Is this a trick question?' Sigourney Weaver floating is an actual physical effect. The actress was put in a full body cast and attached to a post hidden in the curtains. Nobody has ever suited demonic possession quite like Sigourney Weaver. 8/

'SHUT IT OFF!' After Harold Ramis died in 2014, fans of the movie paid tribute to him by visiting the New York City firehouse used in the exterior shots. Strangely, porn star Ron Jeremy can be seen in the crowd as the Ecto-1 pulls up. 9/

'... this man has no dick.' For years after this film, people shouted 'Hey, dickless!' at William Atherton in the street. It's an incredible line delivery by Murray, but Ernie Hudson's 'I've seen shit that'll turn you white', is also a killer. 10/

'Are you the Key Master?' Honestly, I didn't get this whole Key Master/Gate Keeper reference for years. I think it was stored away in my childlike innocence draw. The penny dropped a while ago and it changed everything... it seems Louis got his wish after all. The dirty dog. 11/

'You said crossing the streams was bad.' The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was in Aykroyd's original script. It's image is peppered throughout the movie so as not to seem random. The goo is actually shaving cream, William Atherton has about 50 pounds of it dumped on him. 12/
