Jordan was considered the goat way before his 6th ring but now they quantify success as rings. It has ruined ball discourse. Players hop around teams just cause they want one to satisfy a requirement

The reason you can even say this is because of how inconsistent the NBA is with this thing Look how Iggy got FMVP (coming off the bench) over Curry. How Klay got snubbed, one of the top 5 best shooters ever in the history of the league (‘cause he was injured), how Gobert has 4 DPOY yet Draymond has 1. How Tatum didn’t get FMVP over JB. Even all-star voting…it’s just too inconsistent

Nobody ranks Horry, Havlicek, Cousy or Sam Jones over MJ or Bron. U have to take a holistic view when discussing greatness. Context matters too

IMO the ring argument only really matters when splitting hairs with the GOAT argument. Nobody would say Klay was a better player than AI. AI carried a franchise. But when you call yourself the GOAT and proclaim that beating GS made you the GOAT, you can’t say rings don’t matter. Bron left Cleveland to chase rings. But it looks like he might not reach MJ’s six so now they don’t matter. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Gil is losing a lot of credibility & validity pushing these LeBron narratives! Which is disheartening & disappointing because we KNOW he’s an intelligent person & ball player! But here recently….
