On April 22, 2026, my cousin was attacked by a group of students from Marcus Garvey Technical High School (Top Campus) on her way home from school. She was not involved in the original conflict, but she was targeted anyway. Multiple students surrounded her, hit her, and even used objects to strike her. The bus driver did not intervene. This is especially concerning given that Andrew Holness implemented this bus system to provide students with a safer way to commute to and from school, yet they are still not safe from each other. She came home in pain with a swollen face, a bruised lip, and her uniform torn off of her. The full video is not being shared to protect her identity, but in the clip, one of the attackers can be heard saying, “it nuh done yet” (“it’s not over yet”), further threatening her. Today, she is going to the hospital and a formal report is being made. This is not “school drama”. This is a group assault. This is battery. Students should not have to fear for their safety just trying to get home. There must be accountability for the students involved and for the lack of supervision. There’s a scene in the movie “A Star is Born” with Bradley Cooper and the dog outside the garage. I watched that movie in the end of my drinking days and the scene tortured me so much thinking about it. Of course it was only a movie but I then proceeded to pretty much try drink myself to death. I used to listen to this song hammered drunk alone and crying for hours. The thought of Snoop being home waiting for me is what got me through that ICU visit and made me want to change my life. There’s a lot of emotions in my head about Tina. They are however surprisingly positive. Yes her stay was very short and we’d all have loved to have her for years to make us smile. However for me personally I’m proud of myself because I did all the hard things for her and she had everything perfect until the very last moment. I’d never have done 1% of that when being addicted. I’d have let her down and been selfish and gone off drinking. I’m so happy I got to meet her because she taught me a type of love that I never thought even existed. She was selfless and completely pure in a way I never saw in any creature on this planet. The song and looking at Tina videos just got me thinking that it doesn’t have to end badly. So, THIS is what I'm talking about. Something about this song always stood out, but I never bothered finding out what it means, until someone asked, 'When was it that Cihan fell in love?' To me, it's this moment. He's sure he's in love with Alya here. Him singing "Akşam olur karanlığa kalırsın" is his way of telling her of his love and secretly bidding her goodbye (because he knows she's planning on leaving, and as we later learn, he intends to let her go.) When you learn about the song, it's so damn obvious. It's an Anatolian folk song about unrequited love. So while Ciho knows and accepts his feelings, he's pretty sure Alya feels nothing for him. Which is why he's so freaking surprised when Alya hesitates at the airport, and doesn't leave. And, just look at the lyrics. “Akşam olur karanlığa kalırsın / Derin derin sevdalara dalarsın” Evening comes, you’re left in the dark / You drift into love(s) so deep Cihan knows Alya is about to leave; he's heard her secret plan. So, basically, by evening, he knows she'll be gone, and he'll be alone, drifting in the memories she left behind. “Oy gelin gelin sevdalı gelin / Öldürdün beni” Oh bride, love-struck bride / You’ve killed me This is the painful, ironic bit. She is his wife, his bride, but in name only. They get married out of convenience, out of necessity. But Ciho does the unthinkable and falls in love. To him, she has no such feelings, so love-struck here can mean her own dreams, her own life, anything but him. And, that's what's 'killing' him. He loves her, but he can't even confess his love to stop her from leaving him. “Bülbül ne ötersin yuvanmı yoktur? / Yoksa benim gibi sevdan mı çoktur?” Nightingale, why do you sing, don’t you have a home? / Or do you, like me, have too many loves? In eastern poetry, the nightingale or the bulbul is symbolic of a tragic lover, one who constantly laments the absence of his loved one by singing. No guesses for who the bulbul is in this situation. Then the rhetorical question, 'Why do you sing nightingale?' We know Ciho is singing out of his love for Alya, and the second line, 'Or have you, like me, loved too deeply?' Ouuff. This poor boy is suffering, and suffering badly. He can't say he loves Alya aloud because he knows she's not ready, so he sings it for her, hoping against hope she'll understand. Then comes the whopper: “Ellerin elime değdiği zaman / İster ölüm olsun ister ayrılık” When your hands touched mine / Let it be death, or let it be separation This bit sounds a little, how shall I say it? Depressing? But it's not. The line 'When your hands touched mine' to me is indicative of all the rare moments of warmth they've shared. And the line ' Be it death or be it separation' is his way of saying, he'd rather have all those moments and lose her, than never having touched her, known her, or loved her at all. Like they say, it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. So, yeah. This moment, right here, to me, is Cihan's first confession. And what a beautiful confession it is. It's subtle, like him. It's deep and meaningful, without being in your face. And, here's the best part - you can clearly see what he sings gets through to Alya. Because her expression is so tragic, so melancholy, like some part of her knows he's spelling out his love and saying goodbye. And who knows, maybe that's the reason she can't leave at the airport. Her subconscious picks up on what Cihan is trying to convey, and that's what leads to that struggle between her mind and heart. Masterfully done. Not appreciated enough. He wanted to be loved but his dynamic with Cal was so toxic, he felt unlovable. Lashed out in anger for lack of expression otherwise. Maddy’s feisty ways did nothing to nurture the broken child in him. They had a horrible relationship because neither could heal the other’s real wounds. Both he and Cassie betrayed their best friends and seemed to find something in each other that made them feel loved. As broken and flawed their story might be, as Nate tells Jules “you love who you love”. We had plenty of hints that the night of this incredible wedding party was going to end in total chaos. Nate is caught between a rock and a hard place. He truly wants to build an honest life, but as an entrepreneur myself, I fully empathize with his business struggles and the financial hole he is in. He has to maintain a mask of competence so that he doesn’t lose investor confidence in the business. Bureaucratic shenanigans in real estate coupled with high interest rates, especially in California where building codes are increasingly debilitating, have led to many bankruptcies and foreclosures in the construction business. An endangered flower like the white fritillaries in a construction zone can bring a project to a grinding halt, putting jobs, livelihoods and businesses at risk. The balance between conservation and progress in California is reaching unhealthy proportions. Nate’s business woes are not rooted in him wanting to con people. And yet, he now has to face the consequences of this thin line he has been walking to maintain investor confidence versus cutting visible corners so he could better manage his costs. Cassie refused to understand this and so he caved to her demands and puts on a more lavish wedding than he could afford. Regardless of her melodrama about not wanting to be poor (thanks to her mother’s incessant poisoning of the well), Cassie’s biggest desire in life is to be loved. And for better or for worse, Cassie & Nate have taken the vows to be there for each other. I predict she goes out into the world to make money in ways she knows how, to service this debt she’s inherited as Mrs. Jacobs. I know Jacob and Sydney will push the limits of their characters caught in these ludicrous scenarios. I am seated for this! Maddy’s uncomfortable presence at the wedding, Marsha’s jabs at her, her witnessing the love Nate & Cassie seem to have for each other, are beautifully and painfully captured by Alexa. She truly owns her role as Maddy, who is a pro at faking it till she makes it. She’s hurt by the life she didn’t get but she should feel blessed about making an honest living where she stands on her own. Being rich is a nice aspiration but sometimes the prices to be paid are too high. Nate is now dismembered from the desire to maintain their affluent status. Jules’ plot is tragic. The character who seems to have the most sense of self in high school, who whole heartedly and unapologetically embraced her queerness, is now a walking shell with no sense of integrity. It will be interesting to see what Sam imagines for her to reclaim herself again. Rue navigating this new world of crime is a challenging role for Zendaya she’s knocking out of the ball park.
