With sadness, I spoke about massacre, rape and human rights atrocities committed by Russian paramilitaries deployed in West and Central Africa at the Oslo Freedom Forum in Norway. It was shocking to so many.

Russian paramilitaries have raped women & boys, slaughtered hundreds of civilians in West & Central Africa, and spread disinformation across Africa. Some of the atrocities they’ve committed are shocking.

I’ve spent years uncovering and documenting massacres and human rights abuses, including rape and torture, by Russian paramilitaries in West and Central Africa. This is what it means to do one of the most difficult and dangerous jobs in the world.

I have just concluded two weeks at the Quaker United Nations Summer School in Geneva, Switzerland, exploring the institutions, ideas and people that shape today’s multilateral system. Through substantive discussions and engagements across International Geneva including the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), the Human Rights Council and OHCHR at Palais Wilson, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), UNHCR and other institutions we examined human rights, migration, peacebuilding, disarmament, climate diplomacy and international trade. Thank you to the QUNO team, distinguished speakers and the 2026 cohort for the meaningful exchange of ideas and perspectives throughout the programme. #QUNSS2026 #Diplomacy #Multilateralism #HumanRights #Geneva #InternationalCooperation

#WATCH | Geneva, Switzerland: The United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP) organised an anti-Pakistan protest at the Broken Chair outside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, highlighting human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The protesters raised slogans against Pakistan and drew international attention to what they described as continued repression, political restrictions and violations of basic rights in PoJK. A major focus of the demonstration was the June 5 firing on peaceful protesters in PoJK. According to the protesters, Pakistani security forces opened fire on demonstrators, killing several civilians and seriously injuring dozens of others. The protesters demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and accountability for those responsible for the alleged use of force against civilians.
