Glass fire extinguishers, also known as glass fire grenades, were a common type of fire extinguisher in the 19th and early 20th centuries: 1. How they worked: The user would throw the glass globe at the base of the fire, where the glass would shatter and release a liquid to extinguish the flames. 2. What they were filled with:The earliest glass fire extinguishers were filled with salt water, which doesn't freeze under normal conditions. Later models were filled with carbon tetrachloride, which was highly toxic and could damage the lungs, kidneys, and liver. 3. How they looked: They were often decorative, with a bulbous bottom, long neck, and the company name on them. 4. How they were used: They were popular in homes and businesses, where flammable materials like wood and fabric were common. 5. Examples: The Harden Star Grenade was a popular brand of glass fire extinguisher. The London Fire Brigade Museum has a collection of glass fire grenades dating back to around 1880.

For those that are wondering he doesn’t throw it and show you what it does when explode. 1/10 not worth watching until the end.

Yes Carbon Tet aerosol “fire extinguishers” were sold in the 1960’s. And yes they produce Phosgene. And yes I had to try it. Phosgene is a black cloud.
