That ramp’s way too steep, this is why we need actual disabled voices in planning

In the U.S., rule for manual wheelchair ramp needs to be 1:12 ratio. It means every inch (centimeter) height elevated needs 12 inches (centimeters) ramp extends out horizontally. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sets a maximum slope ratio of 1:12 for public-use ramps, which applies to commercial properties and accessible routes. This means that for every 1 inch of vertical rise, a ramp must be at least 12 inches (or 1 foot) long horizontally.

Every architect, engineer, and contractor should spend at least 1 day on a wheelchair in public spaces so we can understand the importance of accessibility.

Yeah that's definitely not a 1:12 ramp (every inch of rise, the ramp should extend 12 inches (1 foot) horizontally).......get on the phone to the lawyer

isn't their ADA guidelines for this shit? I'm pretty certain the slope has to be at a certain angle. It's one thing for a private contractor to fuck it up but if it was truly done by a government contractor that's absolutely disgraceful.

Make friends. They can go to the city to do your task for you. Or, city can hire a guy specifically to do 5 minutes of work pushing you up the ramp for an appointment. It is weird when I see signs with braille at the ATM, at the crosswalk or on a plaque outside of a building. You know they only install that because of a lawsuit judgement, not because handicapped people really use it.

They were lazy and didn't even bother to research the ADA ramp slope requirements to be legally compliant with ADA standards.

People don't realize how even the slight incline we're used to with public ramps is actually kinda hard if you use a manual wheelchair. My first day in a chair was so upsetting.

When he fell off his wheelchair, he heard a woman's voice calling out to him, and the man turned towards the voice and waved as if to say, "It's no problem." There are kind people in the city, but the city are not kind.😥

Ramp is too steep but the handrail could help - unfortunately even when you reach the top the disabled person would end up rolling down unless they try to push themselves beyond handrail which maybe uncomfortable or even impossible for some.
