Starting tomorrow, August 13 at 12:01 AM, silencers and AOWs gotten through Silencer Shop can transfer with no Form 4, no federal registration, and no wait. What you need to know: Applies in the 27 states with no state-level NFA laws. 15 states still require a Form 4. The silencer must come from Silencer Shop or a Powered By Silencer Shop dealer. SBRs and SBSs are not included. The 1968 Gun Control Act still requires ATF approval, so a Form 4 is still required. The tax is gone, but the paperwork isn’t. The government can still appeal, so we'll keep you posted if anything changes. A federal judge just ruled that because Congress zeroed out the NFA tax in the Big Beautiful Bill, the federal registration and approval process for suppressors and other NFA items no longer has a legal basis. No more tax stamp. No more waiting on ATF approval for transfers. Dealers are still waiting on clear guidance, and the government has time to appeal, but the principle is clear: When the tax goes away, the regulatory scheme that depended on it collapses. Gun owners just got a major victory.
