Gobsmacked! Especially given everything we now know on Firefighter Cancers... Worst of all, they are volunteers by the looks of it, so will likely go straight home in the same clothing, passing on carcinogenic particles to loved ones putting them at risk! Anyone know the dept?

The department's name has already been posted under original video, but it's completely irrelevant. What difference does it make? Let's learn from it and not repeat it or we will be the "stars" of next video. I'm sure they have already been spoken to after this went viral.

Unbelievable, how could any firefighter with 1 day on the job think this is okay.

You'll find this is somewhat usual behavior for volunteer fire departments in the U.S. It doesn't make excuses for them not wearing full turnout gear and the initial firefighter on the scene not having on SCBA apparatus, this is the volunteer system here. 1/x

Not just that it's an isolated car fire, no real exposures, take your time, get your gear on, last thing you need is a gas strut exploding into you with no ppe or C on either. We always say complacency kills this is a prime example

It still blows my mind even after seeing the video a dozen times. I realize the vehicle is directly next to vegetation with chance of spread but that's no excuse to disregard crucial PPE & SOPs.

I teach our crew better. #Hazmat Volunteer or paid doesn't matter. It's the same fire. Pack up!

It’s not just the risk from carcinogenic’s here, not wearing full/any ppe is very dangerous, putting themselves at massive risk of serious burns, I know I’ve personally been to multiple vehicle fires where fuel tanks ruptured/tyres have blown out etc.

Pretty sad that this dept believes shorts and a t-shirt are appropriate PPE. ☹️

This is a training issue, so much research has been completed to highlight the hazards to Firefighters, which needs to be passed on - early in my career we did the same, but did have firekit - volunteers lives are just as important as paid staff hopefully they will not suffer

Shocking that they no Safe Systems of Work in place. Shorts and r-shirt and the second with jeans. No head protection. Volunteers or not I am sure they were issued PPE.
