For the first time in my life, I feel I get to merge the 2 things that I love: production & web3. When I look at web3, the space is so rich in stories. Founder stories, product stories, user stories. I believe storytelling is ultimately what will help people see this space for what it is and to give them a different perspective on the media headlines. And it's not often that as a creative you can work side by side with brands and cos that you truly align with. So on May 24th, when I got the call from Arcade Research and Blast to see if I could help Pacman | Blur + Blast share the story and vision for Blast- I knew it was going to be sprint but it was an easy yes. Really excited to share that I had the privilege of directing and producing the Blast Phase 2 announcement video and a deep dive interview with Pacman about the vision for Phase 2. From a little campaign video to a deep dive interview- we covered it all and we ran it back ;) The last 30 days have been a non-stop sprint literally up until yesterday, with 2 productions in LA and NYC. And I’m so grateful to have been a small part of what feels like history in the making. A campaign like this does not happen on such a tight turnaround time without an incredible crew and post-production team. This would not have been possible able to do this without them. Proud of this crew and it was an honor to work alongside them. Excited to be properly stepping back into the world of production to tell the stories of Web3. We experimented, FAFO’d, and had an actual Blast. Plz gib a round of applause for these legends who made it all possible 👏🐐👇 Production Co: Remint Reality Director/Producer: RIP Director of Photography: Josh Park Production Designer: Briana Gonzales 1st AC: Wade Young 2nd AC/DIT: Che Song “Jay” Pak 2nd AC: Mitchell Schultz Editor & Sound Designer: PANDAA (delusionally optimistic era) Motion Graphics & Animation: Suffoca Los Angeles Crew Stills Photographer: Hannah BTS Video: James Cortez Steadicam Op: Jaron Tauch Gaffer: Robin Banando G&E Swing: Eddie Loera Best Boy Electric: Geoff Stevenson Key Grip: Tony Banando Sound Mixer: Ferinand Almalvez Boom Op: Matt Brodnick Set Dresser: Chris Katus H/MU: Tayla Boz PA: LJ Benet New York Crew Gaffer: John Roche G&E Swing: Jeff Cunningham G&E Swing: Kevin Hunt Grip: Huttemberg Nassar Sound Mixer: Daniel Sheppard Boom Op: EJ Markland Set Dresser: Damani Pompey H/MU: Sol PA: Vitali A huge thank you Blast for taking a bet on me and bringing me in to work on this. Disgraced Demo Contractor Blames Duggan for Detroit's Poisoning I was invited for an exclusive interview with Lover Boy, but he chickened out, so here's what I would have asked him By Charlie LeDuff Charlie LeDuff Lover Boy left me standing in a monsoon. I had been invited to his press conference for an exclusive interview to hear former Gayanga CEO Brian McKinney’s side of things regarding the mass poisoning of Detroit. Then, thinking better of it, Lover Boy had me put out on the street. I was standing on Jefferson when the heavens opened. The bums at the bus stop scattered. My papers got drenched. But that’s okay. I had the subject matter memorized. Good thing I'd brought a bullhorn. I shouted my questions over the howling winds while Lover Boy was six floors up, spinning the media with tales of woe and done-me-wrong. I hoped they could hear me up there. McKinney, the former consort of Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield, is being investigated by a host of law enforcement agencies—including the FBI—for faking receipts for clean dirt, charging the city top dollar for it, and then dumping the toxic garbage into the neighborhoods when it should have gone to a landfill. This bad dirt could cause cancer. McKinney agrees that the city has been poisoned. But he blames former Mayor Mike Duggan and his cronies for supplying him with the toxic dirt. The clean up could cost more than $100 million and send the city spiraling back into bankruptcy. And $100 million is exactly the amount McKinney is suing the Detroit Inspector General for. He claims the Inspector defamed him for inspecting his work. That’s like O.J. Simpson suing the LAPD for investigating a break-in. There’s little doubt O.J. did it. But I don’t know if McKinney did. I’ll leave that to Johnny Lawman and the courts. Sheffield, Duggan, and the City Council are all hiding in their badger holes, leaving concerned citizens in the dark. So in the interest of public health, I shouted what I thought were a few important questions through the purifying rains. - Did McKinney remember Mike? Mike was his former foreman in charge of writing up the questionable dirt receipts. Mike reached out to me last week claiming the receipts were forgeries. Mike sent me copies of tickets written in his own hand, showing truck drivers allegedly being in two different places collecting dirt at the same time. Was McKinney aware of this? Mike claims he was. - Or what about McKinney’s former bookkeeper who alleges there was a forgery mill going on in the back office? - Or what about the Northland redevelopment job in Southfield, where the contaminated dirt allegedly came from that went into Gayanga’s demolition holes? Does McKinney know that the prominent contractor on that site is cooperating with the authorities? - Did he discuss business with then-city councilwoman Sheffield while they were “getting to know each other” at a Miami hotel underneath 350-thread count sheets? Sheffield told the public last fall that she never voted on a contract for Gayanga while she was canoodling with McKinney. But that turned out to be a lie. - How did McKinney meet Mayor Mike Duggan? How did he become Hizzoner’s preferred minority demo contractor? Why was he allowed to work without construction insurance? Did Duggan appoint him to the Detroit Institute of Arts board of directors? - What about the millions of dollars subcontractors claim McKinney owes them? Who’s going to pay them? Who’s going pay for this massive clean-up? - And how did McKinney link up with Bobby Ferguson’s old crew? While Bobby was doing time in federal prison for Kwame-related things, McKinney became business partners with Bobby’s ex-wife. He hired Bobby’s cousin. He used Bobby’s equipment and staging yard. I had more questions, but the tropical winds were really buffeting by then. Dirt was blowing in my eyes. No telling where it had come from.

today is a HUGE day... my first project as a director is out now!! "kid for life" by lulu la (full music video) shot, produced & edited by myself & Xavier Jimenez featuring performances by lulu la & Avi Julia Brown with assistance from Jackie Kay & Dan Stadnicki title graphics by FishyPond _________________________ almost a year ago, my roommate Xavier & i were tired of doing nothing but auditioning & had so many stories we wanted to tell. we realized that the only thing stopping us from just doing it was knowing that we had to commit 100% of our time and energy - so i decided to quit streaming & we formed a production company. since then we've been building out sets of high quality cameras, amazing lights, beautiful lenses (some being vintage lenses from the 40s and 50s, rehousing them ourselves to fit modern cameras) & other awesome film equipment *and* learning how to edit, color grade & sound engineer to make an all-encompassing production company that does pre-production, production, & post production. we've played just about every film crew role on our projects so far (to the point where on our upcoming short film i was running sound while operating our b-cam while pulling focus while also directing) & it's been such a fulfilling learning experience. since my exit from the walking dead over 5 years ago i keep hearing the question "so what are you doing now?" and for the longest time all i could say is that i was auditioning for new stuff - and i wasn't proud that i didn't have a better answer. i was fortunate enough to do some amazing projects here & there over the years, but none of them lasted longer than a couple months. now i do have an answer i'm proud of! i'm constantly creating my own projects and telling stories i want to tell, and i get to do it with some of my best friends. so being able to visually tell a story like this music video - wanting to be a kid again, when everything was easier, feels full circle to how i constantly felt when i was in that limbo-stage. and don't worry, i'm still acting. this is just another way for me to be able to create meaningful art that you can watch, feel for & relate to. enjoy!

David Lynch on using Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" in Blue Velvet (1986), and Roy Orbison's reaction to the film: Chris Rodley: "I’ve always assumed that ‘In Dreams’ was conceived as an integral part of the movie from the beginning. It seems conceptually essential to the story’s intentions and mood. Is that true?" Lynch: "‘In Dreams’ came about while we were in production for Blue Velvet. Kyle MacLachlan and I were on our way down to Wilmington, North Carolina, from New York City. We were going through Central Park on our way to the airport when over the cab’s radio came ‘Crying’ by Roy Orbison, and I’m listening to this song and I said, ‘That! I’ve got to get that for Blue Velvet. When I got to Wilmington I sent somebody out to get Roy Orbison’s greatest hits. I played ‘Crying’ and then I played ‘In Dreams’, and as soon as I did, I forgot ‘Crying’. ‘In Dreams’ explained to me so much of what the film was all about. I immediately called Dennis Hopper and told him about the scene I had in mind and that he had to memorize this song. Dennis and Dean Stockwell are old friends. Dean got together with Dennis to help him work out the song and memorize the lyrics. I wonder why! [Laughs.] So we finally got to the day we were going to shoot the scene in Ben’s apartment where Dennis was going to sing the song. We were rehearsing and Dean said, ‘I’ll stand here and kind of help Dennis if he needs it.’ So we started playing the music and both Dennis and Dean began to sing ‘In Dreams’. All of a sudden Dennis stops singing and looks at Dean — who’s continuing to sing. Dennis is solidly in character and he is moved by Dean’s (Ben’s) singing. There was the scene in front of me. It was so perfect. Once it was decided Dean would be singing ‘In Dreams’, another strange thing happened. I was going to use a small candle-style table lamp as the microphone. Dean knew the microphone was going to be a lamp of some sort and when he went over to the area of Ben’s apartment where we were going to set the song, thinking he saw the prop light, he picked up a work light that was hanging on a nail on the wall. He turned it on and flipped the long cord like a microphone cord and obviously it couldn’t have been more perfect. The strange thing is no one on the crew put that work light there. No one knew where it came from. Who can say how it happens?" Rodley: "The use of ‘In Dreams’ in that scene revived Roy Orbison’s career, but what did he think of the movie and the use of his music in it?" Lynch: "When Roy first saw the movie he didn’t like it. His song ‘In Dreams’ meant another whole thing to him, and it was, like, a precious thing. I think some people he respected must have gotten him to see the movie again and reconsider his feelings. Roy told me that when he saw the movie the second time, he got past what the song was for him and then could appreciate the fact that it was working in another way." — "Lynch on Lynch" (1997), edited by Chris Rodley

Happy Birthday to DaJuan Prince, Set Costumer on #TheWire (and Snot Boogie actor). He’s also worked on The Corner, We Own This City, House of Cards, VEEP, Swagger and more. But his start came from hanging around the set of “Homicide: Life on the Street.” Here’s a few paragraphs from a 2002 Baltimore Sun article: Prince’s road to The Wire began in 1995. Homicide: Life of the Street was filming in the Lexington Terrace neighborhood, right in his back yard. Academy Award winner Kathy Bates was directing an episode entitled “Scene of the Crime” which focused on a murder case in the housing projects. “I just walked onto the set,” Prince explains. “Kathy Bates was directing that episode and let me change words in the script. It was exciting to me.” “Kathy made friends with everyone. She sorta took the kids in,” said David Simon, producer-writer-director on both Homicide and The Wire. “You’re filming in people’s back yard, so you let them see the video, call ‘Cut’ and ‘Role.’ She would say to the older kids, ‘Did that look real to you?’ The kids knew what it was supposed to look like.” Alone among the crowd, Du’Juan, then 15, hung around when the shoot was over. He asked where filming would take place the next day, then showed up to continue what he’d started. “Every time they wrapped, I asked what time they were coming back the next day, and I’d be there,” Prince recalled. “I started calling them and hanging around for so many years that they just got used to me.” Da’Juan’s “hanging around” landed him his first job on a film set, as a production assistant on The Corner, Simon’s miniseries, also filmed in Baltimore. “Before, he had been a kind of a mascot,” Simon said. “We enjoyed having him around. But this was a real job now.” Prince fit in immediately. “He became responsible and creative,” Simon said, “so we put him in wardrobe as assistant for The Wire.” “Da’Juan is actually busier than I am on the set,” says actor Larry Gilliard Jr., who plays D’Angelo Barksdale, a drug dealer who is the prime target of the police investigation on The Wire. “He’s always dealing with the actors, always ready and on the go.” A typical day for Prince begins with the extras, who will remain his main focus throughout filming. He’ll look at what they brought to wear and compare it with what is needed for the scene. “You can’t wear certain colors,” says Prince, who hopes this stint on The Wire will lead to a career in costume design. (It did) Happy Birthday DaJuan (Juan Beckham)

If you have followed my journey as a solo artiste and even before, you will notice that I give people their due credit where necessary as I am a firm believer in team work; I know my strengths, where I need assistance or guidance I am not afraid to ask or work with those who are strong in the areas I am not; this includes the process of creating music, executing concepts and ideas etc. I will always give people their due credit for their contributions to my projects. Sometime in June 2022, I stumbled upon a producer based in Ghana named Vampire, and had my team and I also personally reached out to him via DM, that I liked his work and was interested in working with him. Before getting him to Lagos, I presented the idea of this producer to my twin brother and our team, getting their buy in before I got him flight tickets and flew him to Lagos. It was when he got into Lagos I asked if he would be open to working on P-SQUARE’s next album project, that the 5 songs I had penned down from my end to be presented to our A&R team for the album project these were: JAIYE, WINNING, FIND SOMEBODY, LEGENDARY, and ATTENTION, based on tracks he had produced. We started with my own 5 songs that needed to be submitted for PSQUARE's album, which he produced for me: The idea for WINNING came from one of his beats that I discovered. I came up with the idea of changing the chord progression from the original version to what it is today with my own producer Goldswarm who is the co-producer of the song WINNING. I had also engaged a songwriter known as CALYPSO who wrote and composed the song WINNING and sent it to me on the beats through a voice note. And we started working on the song. Mind you, he worked on some other songs that were to make the album as well, so my brother was aware of his input to the production as we were all in the studio during this period. Then when my twin brother heard the song WINNING, which we had already created the hook/chorus for, he then wanted to start creating a verse. Our agreed-on process for each song presented by us was: arrange the song, leave a verse for the other person, then we both harmonise the chorus and refrain bits together. He wasn’t supposed to until Calypso and I finished it as part of my own song submission to the LEGENDARY ALBUM. After that, we finished and shared verses among ourselves. I do not wish to get into details of why the album didn’t see the light of day till date but it takes a different level of psychosis for one to steal what is theirs already; as since the release of this song, I have been labeled and called all sorts online and they have even gone as far as asking for the song to be taken down on various platforms, to what end? It was never part of his 5, now 6 (according to him) songs for submission, yet when he felt I was not interested in making music because I chose my sanity over the constant berating and drama that seemed to come up over creative direction in the group. If it were his song, why do I have all the music data including initial conversations and picture/video evidence on the above-mentioned titles/songs? Which of his songs do I have its data in my possession in that case? All because he was hoping for me to quit music. Even when I learnt that he had removed my vocals on songs we did together, suggesting that he sing the entire songs including the ones that he planned to present for the album without my input (a very absurd idea as we both make up the duo not just the one), but we both perform them on stage, I begun to have a rethink of the entire situation. Let me leave this here. Maybe because I was not posting anything music related on my social media page for over 4 months. He believes I have lost interest in music. I took a breather to get my mind and head in the right space and when that was done, my epiphany was WINNING!

Manager Cai came out first and greeted the leader. Jiang Qiaoxi saw him off. Zhao Shengjuan walked up quickly, nodded and smiled: Secretary Li, you have worked hard, the child has grown up and is a little naughty - Lin Haifeng joined in: Yes, yes, it's hard work, Secretary - The leader looked at the two of them and smiled: It must be hard for you to raise such a child. Zhao Shengjuan thought he had misunderstood, and waved her hands repeatedly: No, no, we are not his—— The leader smiled: I know, you are his neighbors, you are both from the Electric Power Construction, Manager Cai introduced me to you, saying that I was raised in your family when I was a child. I joined this Texas Clear Sky Movement because I need to learn a lot more facts about what is going on and what effects whatever is going on is having on Texas. I post this hearing of Texas House State Representative Wes Virdell, TX State Rep 's on his HB 1382 which started out as a bill to eliminate weather modification and changed into one to stop geoengineering spraying in Texas. In this hearing, I, and I think the Texas House members on the panel learned a lot about the issue. My summary of the hearing is that we learned that there are two different programs/activities going on. One is rain enhancement and to a slight extent, hail size reduction activities going on in Texas that is regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The rain enhancement activities carried out by the state spray silver iodide into developing thunderclouds in the troposphere (between 5000 and 10,000 feet) in the air with the objective of increasing the rain produced in the clouds. There are 5 or 6 companies/entities licensed to do this in Texas. One representative in the hearing said that his brother living in Oklahoma is noted that rain enhancement into a developing cell in Texas eventually developed into a tornadic system that hit his house with a tornado. He saw the correlation and presumed that the Texas cloud seeding created the tornado that hit his house. The science expert for TDLR did not agree that cloud seeding causes tornadoes. He said it is designed to create more rain. The other activity going on is the stratospheric (several miles high) spaying of aluminum compounds (and maybe barium and strontium based compounds) in the grid patterns. This is called geoengineering. A representative of one of the rain enhancement companies said that this was being done with the objective of reducing global warming by creating a haze that reflects sunlight away from the earth. I am still unclear who is doing the geoengineering spraying. Is it the federal government as the rain enhancement rep said? Or is it privately funded? I have seen a video elsewhere of a former CIA director admitting it is being done. But if it is the feds, what federal entity is doing it? How much fed money is going to do it? When was it authorized, and for what purpose? After TDLR and the entities doing the cloud seeding in Texas (some of whom testified) visited Rep Virdell to tell him about the difference between weather mod/rain enhancement and geoengineering, claiming positive and benign effects of weather modification, Virdell changed his bill to target geoengineering being done instead of any regulated or funded by the state of Texas. The bill by Virdell had the votes to get out of committee and to the House floor, but Chair Dade Phelan (the former speaker of the Texas House and the chair of the committee in the video) refused to hold a vote, so the bill died. BTW, Kerrville is in Wes Virdell's district, and he has been out doing what he can to help in the response to the devastation of the flooding in his district. Note also that the testimony from citizens was primarily targeted at the health and environmental risks associated with spaying heavy metals and silver iodide over Texas. One of the rain production proponents claimed he has never seen a study that says that silver iodide for rain seeding is not safe. But I think I heard one of the witnesses saying that there are studies that are. But, boy, I still have a lot of questions. 1) How do we know that the Texas regulated rain enhancement program is not causing these freak rainstorms? I want to see a lot more science on this. I even think that the question about the enhancement of tornadic activity by cloud seeding that was asked has not been answered to my satisfaction. And I would VERY MUCH like to know if there was any cloud seeding activity that correlates with this most recent flooding episode. 2) Who is doing the geoengineering over Texas? How was it authorized? What chemicals are they using? What health and environmental studies have been done on whatever they are spaying? 3) What studies have been done on the impacts on weather (and rain production and tornadic impact) from the geoengineering going on that takes into account the combination of BOTH Texas weather mod activity AND geoengineering spraying? (This is kind of like asking whether there have ever been any safety studies on the combination of all the vaccines being recommended for children, nowadays. It is possible that one activity by itself does not do any harm, but a combination of multiple factors does.) I argued in the hearing that we need a stop to all of this until the people of Texas have had time to have input into what is being sprayed on them and what the health, environmental, and weather impacts are on them using unbiased, special-interest free studies. I still believe that. I hope that by reading info provided in this group, I will get a lot more answers to these questions. Thanks for letting me join.

Akira Kurosawa on his experience watching 'Solaris' (1972) & drinking vodka with Andrei Tarkovsky in Moscow: "I met Tarkovsky for the first time when I attended my welcome luncheon at the Mosfilm during my first visit to Soviet Russia. He was small, thin, looked a little frail, and at the same time exceptionally intelligent, and unusually shrewd and sensitive. I thought he somehow resembled Toru Takemitsu, but I don’t know why. Then he excused himself saying, “I still have work to do,” and disappeared, and after a while I heard such a big explosion as to make all the glass windows of the dining hall tremble hard. Seeing me taken aback, the boss of the Mosfilm said with a meaningful smile: “You know another world war does not break out. Tarkovsky just launched a rocket. This work with Tarkovsky, however, has proved a Great War for me.” That was the way I knew Tarkovsky was shooting 'Solaris' (1972). After the luncheon party, I visited his set for Solaris. There it was. I saw a burnt down rocket was there at the corner of the space station set. I am sorry I forgot to ask him as to how he had shot the launching of the rocket on the set. The set of the satellite base was beautifully made at a huge cost, for it was all made up of thick duralumin. It glittered in its cold metallic silver light, and I found light rays of red, or blue or green delicately winking or waving from electric light bulbs buried in the gagues on the equipment lined up in there. And above on the ceiling of the corridor ran two duralumin rails from which hanged a small wheel of a camera which could move around freely inside the satellite base. Tarkovsky guided me around the set, explaining to me as cheerfully as a young boy who is given a golden opportunity to show someone his favorite toybox. Bondarchuk, who came with me, asked him about the cost of the set, and left his eyes wide open when Tarkovsky answered it. The cost was so huge: about six hundred million yen as to make Bondarchuk, who directed that grand spectacle of a movie “War and Peace,” agape in wonder. Now I came to fully realize why the boss of the Mosfilm said it was “a Great War for me.” But it takes a huge talent and effort to spend such a huge cost. Thinking “This is a tremendous task” I closely gazed at his back when he was leading me around the set in enthusiasm. Concerning Solaris, I find many people complaining that it is too long, but I do not think so. They especially find too lengthy the description of nature in the introductory scenes, but these layers of memory of farewell to this earthly nature submerge themselves deep below the bottom of the story after the main character has been sent in a rocket into the satellite station base in the universe, and they almost torture the soul of the viewer like a kind of irresistible nostalghia toward mother earth nature, which resembles homesickness. Without the presence of beautiful nature sequences on earth as a long introduction, you could not make the audience directly conceive the sense of having-no-way-out harboured by the people “jailed” inside the satellite base. I saw this film late at night in a preview room in Moscow for the first time, and soon I felt my heart aching in agony with a longing to returning to the earth as quickly as possible. Marvellous progress in science we have been enjoying, but where will it lead humanity after all? Sheer fearful emotion this film succeeds in conjuring up in our soul. Without it, a science fiction movie would be nothing more than a petty fancy. These thoughts came and went while I was gazing at the screen. Tarkovsky was together with me then. He was at the corner of the studio. When the film was over, he stood up, looking at me as if he felt timid. I said to him, “Very good. It makes me feel real fear.” Tarkovsky smiled shyly, but happily. And we toasted vodka at the restaurant in the Film Institute. Tarkovsky, who didn’t drink usually, drank a lot of vodka, and went so far as to turn off the speaker from which music had floated into the restaurant, and began to sing the theme of samurai from Seven Samurai at the top of his voice. As if to rival him, I joined in. For I was at that moment very happy to find myself living on Earth. Solaris makes a viewer feel this, and even this single fact shows us that Solaris is no ordinary SF film. It truly somehow provokes pure horror in our soul. And it is under the total grip of the deep insights of Tarkovsky. There must be many, many things still unknown to humanity in this world: the abyss of the cosmos which a man had to look into, strange visitors in the satellite base, time running in reverse, from death to life, strangely moving sense of levitation, his home which is in the mind of the main character in the satellite station is wet and soaked with water. It seems to me to be sweat and tears that in his heartbreaking agony he squeezed out of his whole being. And what makes us shudder is the shot of the location of Akasakamitsuke, Tokyo, Japan. By a skillful use of mirrors, he turned flows of head lights and tail lamps of cars, multiplied and amplified, into a vintage image of the future city. Every shot of Solaris bears witness to the almost dazzling talents inherent in Tarkovsky. Many people grumble that Tarkovsky’s films are difficult, but I don’t think so. His films just show how extraordinarily sensitive Tarkovsky is. He made a film titled 'Mirror' (1975) after Solaris. Mirror deals with his cherished memories in his childhood, and many people say again it is disturbingly difficult. Yes, at a glance, it seems to have no rational development in its storytelling. But we have to remember: it is impossible that in our soul our childhood memories should arrange themselves in a static, logical sequence. A strange train of fragments of early memory images shattered and broken can bring about the poetry in our infancy. Once you are convinced of its truthfulness, you may find Mirror the easiest film to understand. But Tarkovsky remains silent, without saying things like that at all. His very attitude makes me believe that he has wonderful potentials in his future. There can be no bright future for those who are ready to explain everything about their own film." July 14th, 2023, my 11 years old sickel cell son had a surgery that got his spleen and gall bladder removed. I followed him into the theater, and we barely spent 3 minutes they said, he's going to sleep now, and I didn't know when they administered the anesthesia. He just said, "My mom, I want my mom, then closed his eyes.... eh, I was shocked, scared, and startled. I screamed, he's not talking again, they said he's asleep. He appears lifeless within 30 seconds. I sat on the floor, lost, broken, and shattered. They managed to remove me from the theater room. I sat right on the floor at the door and wept. Deep pain, I couldn't explain it. I got to the hospital room, weeping, and the procedure was going to take 6 to 8 hours. I cried the whole time, begging God to please keep him alive. All alone in that room, dejected, broken, alone, and helpless. I put on cityAlight worship songs and continue to cry my cry. They called after 6 hrs to tell me they're almost done. It doesn't feel like 2 hrs. When he came out, he was a completely different boy. Couldn't move his body, the same boy that walked into the hospital. 24hrs later, his bp started rising, and I kept telling them something isn't right. Later that day, i went home to quickly make food, Then, i got a vall that he suddenly developed a seizure and passed away. All the units ran down, doing everything within their power to resuscitate him. My sister called me to inform me, I was lost. I ran from upstairs downstairs to the front of my house weeping. Where will I go from here, I can't bury a child. Brethren drove me down to the hospital. On our way, they were praying, but I was just crying. I kept calling my sister but she didn't pick, then she called the people with me in the car that he's not responding o. While we were almost there, they said he's coming back slowly. He was transferred immediately to ICU, and the whole drama became serious. Now he's awake but in serious pain. On one of the days after Sunday service, we got there, and I met the staff doing an x-ray of his chest, so I went to the screen and I saw a skeleton skull right on his chest. I called one of my brothers who was there and asked him to come see. He said he couldn't see anything, so I saw the skeleton skull again. Then, I told them that the boy is healed. At that point, my brain was awakened. I asked for bowls, I put water, and washed him aggressively, moving his legs, hands, body, while he was screaming and crying.. his bp kept rising. The nurses ran in, and I told them not to worry, that he's fine. After washing, I sat him up, he kept crying, my mom please, I said you're healed my dear. After that, I told my sister who was with him that she should make sure he eats. I came home, and I slept and was calm. Why? Because at that point of revelation, I knew the battle was no longer mine. I rest! The next day, my son was able to sit for two 2 hours straight, and everyone was happy. I told them he's healed. On Tuesday, he sat in a wheelchair and was wheeled to the play room. I kept smiling. By Thursday, he's walking to the toilet by himself. That was how he got back, and he was discharged. I can't measure the amount of pain I had felt in life, but the moment God opened my eyes to see beyond the ordinary, I would just relax and let him work it out. Because it is no longer mine, the Lord reveals the battle he had conquered. Once your eyes are open to see them, they're no more. This is just one out of many wonders of God over my life and my children.

People Call Me for Help Because Our Leaders Are Screwing Us Any wrongdoing by Whitmer or Benson has been ignored by Dana Nessel, and the Republicans are sitting on their hands By Charlie LeDuff Charlie LeDuff I received a handwritten note this week. “HELP!” it read. “PLEASE hear my story. Wayne County employees and Affiliates are bullying me. Big Corporations and City Officials, I AM the community.” It was signed, Linda. I also got a call from Paul, a firefighter, last week. He wanted help looking into the connections between a string of arsons and city officials. I got another call from Ray, a guy who once helped me identify the victim of a serial killer. He had a convoluted tip about corruption in Detroit. I get dozens of contacts like this every week from every corner of the state. People who have been victimized by the very government they voted for. I try to help them. But I’ve got my hands full. I’m going through thousands of pages of nursing home Covid documents. The state of Michigan charged me thousands of dollars to get them. The best I can make out, Gov. Whitmer’s nursing home response was a deadly fraud. It cries out for an official investigation. But Attorney General Dana Nessel refuses to conduct one. Why? Whitmer, during that time, hopped on a businessman’s jet plane and took a trip to Palm Beach. When caught, she claimed her campaign fund paid for it. If true, that would be illegal. Again, no investigation. At the same time, Nessel took a luxurious vacation with her wife to Turks and Caicos, which was paid for by a prominent law firm with business before the state. Again, no investigation. Here’s where it gets sick. It was the Republican leadership in Lansing that made Whitmer’s nursing home investigation go away. It was a “go along to get along” arrangement. Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey was able to avoid felony charges for campaign finance fraud. In the meantime, Shirkey’s money-raising minions were charged. One faces 14 years in prison. The Republican House Speaker at the time, Lee Chatfield, avoided his own corruption charges until he was out of office. It was only then that Chat the Brat was ratted out by his brother and sister-in-law. He stands accused of using campaign funds for jets, hotel rooms, prostitutes, and drugs. Nessel’s wife was caught up in a similar campaign finance scheme as Shirkey. The root of money in both cases came from DTE’s nonprofit. Meanwhile, our energy bills continue to skyrocket. Documents show that Nessel colluded with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson—who had issued a criminal referral to Nessel regarding a ballot committee connected to Nessel’s wife. Nessel asked Benson to make it go away. Nessel’s wife, nor anyone connected to her, has never been charged. Benson has not been investigated for that, nor for violating numerous election laws, nor for accepting thousands of donations that appear to have been made from straw donors using stolen identities of elderly people. Benson’s husband, Ryan Friedrichs, was investigated for destroying evidence that showed that his then-boss, Mayor Mike Duggan, was funneling public money into a nonprofit run by Duggan’s mistress. Nessel looked casually into that. Nothing came of it. Friedrichs, now a lobbyist, stands to make millions of dollars from a data center that local residents clearly don’t want. Duggan and current Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield are trying to cover up their roles in the mass dirt poisoning in the city of Detroit. Sheffield was sleeping with the accused demolition contractor and even voted to give Lover Boy millions more in work while they were canoodling. When confronted with these facts, Sheffield lied to the public. They’ll probably get away with it, though. Just as Republican Gov. Rick Snyder and his syndicate got away with the mass water poisoning of Flint. No one did a day in jail for that debacle. You can thank the incompetent and insidious Dana Nessel. Again. And you can thank Nessel for interfering in a criminal investigation into her drinking buddy, Tracy Kornak, the former treasurer of the state Democratic Party. Kornak was accused of ripping off a brain-damaged elderly woman four years ago. Nessel made that case go away. Whitmer, also a wine pal, was going to make Kornak a judge. That is until a local prosecutor opened his own abuse case. Kornak now faces four felony charges and 15 years in prison. Nessel was subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee, which was looking into Nessel’s handling of both cases against her wife and Kornak. When Nessel refused to produce documents, the committee hit her with contempt charges. But Republican House Speaker Matt Hall sits on his hands, refusing to bring it to a vote because it doesn’t seem to fit his political calculus. To hell with accountability. Michigan politics is a massive orgy where politicians get off and the public gets screwed. No one is more frustrated than me, Linda. I will call you. But no promises. I don’t have friends in high places.

Did you know⁉️ Just Blaze produced the track, sampling Rose Royce’s 1976 ballad “I’m Going Down” (pitching up elements for that signature early-2000s “chipmunk soul” sound)‼️. He originally made a faster version of the beat for Memphis Bleek, who passed on it‼️. Just Blaze slowed and reworked it; Jay-Z heard it, liked it, and asked to hold it since he wasn’t actively working on an album at the time (right after "The Blueprint 2")‼️. The beat sat unused for a while (Cam’ron has said roughly two months)‼️. Cam’ron and Juelz Santana ended up taking it‼️Juelz reportedly pushed Cam to grab the beat‼️. They recorded quickly and got an unmixed version on New York radio (Hot 97) almost immediately, before the sample was fully cleared‼️. There was some initial tension: Just Blaze worried about the uncleared sample and publishing issues, and Jay-Z was reportedly annoyed that the beat went to Cam instead of him‼️. Once it blew up, they smoothed it over. Cam has joked about it being a hit that justified giving up some publishing, referencing Jay’s own experience with “Hard Knock Life.”‼️ The song is pure Dipset-era swagger and wordplay‼️. The repeated “Oh boy” hook and references (“look at his kicks… look at his car… all I say is oh boy”) play on multiple meanings of “boy”‼️the drug money funding the lifestyle, admiration from women, loyalty to the crew (“my boy”), and general Harlem flexing‼️. Cam and Juelz trade verses full of street talk, materialism, women, guns, bail money, and crew loyalty, delivered with Cam’s signature witty, rapid-fire internal rhymes and a lighthearted tone that still nods to the real risks of the life‼️. Chart success and impact⁉️ Released as a single in April 2002, it peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100‼️, spent five weeks at #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart‼️, and hit #1 on Hot Rap Tracks‼️. It earned a Grammy nomination and later ranked on VH1’s 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop‼️. The music video, shot in Harlem and directed by Bryan Barber and Jim Jones, features cameos from Dame Dash, Jim Jones, Angie Martinez, and others from the Roc/Dipset circle‼️. It was a breakthrough for Cam’ron on Roc-A-Fella and helped introduce Juelz Santana and the broader Diplomats sound to a wider audience‼️. Mariah Carey later interpolated/sampled it for her 2002 track “Boy (I Need You)” (featuring Cam)‼️. Jay-Z recorded a verse for a remix that included a Nas diss‼️. Cam’ron (with Juelz) thought it was weak and had it erased‼️Cam has called it “crazy trash” and said he didn’t want it circulating‼️. The official remix that did come out featured Birdman, TQ, and Jim Jones instead‼️. In short, “Oh Boy” is the classic example of Cam and Dipset turning a leftover beat into a massive, catchy street hit through sharp wordplay, Harlem energy, and Just Blaze’s production‼️.

CBS’s Weijia Jiang Jiang at the #WHCD on her upbringing in rural WV: “I’ve been thinking a lot about my own journey to this podium tonight. I grew up in rural West Virginia, in a town at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, a town called Buchanan, Population 5,500. Those images of the devastating floods that you’ve been seeing are from my hometown. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with everybody there. After my dad finished grad school at WVU, where he properly learned how to say let’s go Mountaineers, my parents decided to stay in the state to open a restaurant. It was such a treat when hunters came in and left deer meat as a tip. On Sundays after church, families packed into the dining room, all dressed up. My mom learned every customer’s name, their favorite dishes. I worked the cash register, topped off glasses of sweet tea and did my homework in the corner booth. A day like that seemed ordinary at the time. Looking back to think that days like that could be considered ordinary. It’s the most powerful reminder of how extraordinary America is. My dad came to the U.S. as a student with just 67 bucks, or as Frankie might say, 6-7. My mom holding a small suitcase on one hand and a toddler me with the other, yet they built a new life, a successful business, and a real future.” “Our Chinese restaurant was the first in my town. Of those 5,500 residents, the Chinese American population of Buchanan was 3. My mom, my dad, and me. Growing up there was not always easy. Most folks had never laid eyes on people who looked like my family, but far more often than not, the community was welcoming and generous. Turns out deer meat is great in a stir fry. In Mandarin, the word for America is Měiguó. It literally means beautiful country, and I love that. America the Beautiful was never only about her landscapes or landmarks. It has always been about the promise that, no matter where you come from, you get a shot at chasing your dreams. My dreams began right there in that family restaurant, a small TV in the back was often turned to the news, my dad’s go-to for learning more English. In the middle of dinner service, it was the CBS Evening News anchored by Dan Rather and Connie Chung. I was hooked. In middle school, I won a contest to be a student reporter for a national news show called Channel One. And when a local news crew came to cover it, they learned just how big my dreams really were.” [Middle school Weijia: I hope to be the next Connie Chang and better, that’s kind of hard, but that’s my goal. And so, I’m going to work very hard at trying to be a broadcast journalist.] “30 years later, it’s surreal to say that I’ve sat in Connie Chung’s old chair to fill in on the evening news, and Connie and I have talked about how the White House beat and the White House Correspondents’ Association used to be a little boy, bit of a boys club. For decades, women could be members, but they were not invited to sit at this dinner until 1962 when a woman who would become dean of the press corps insisted. Thank you, Mrs. Helen Thomas. So, tonight, it means everything to stand here is the first woman of color ever elected president of this association in its 112-year history. I’m here because of the tenacious women who came before me, Melissa, Susan, and support from my family who are with us tonight. My husband Luther, not from West Virginia, but Arkansas, similar enough. My amazing daughter Frankie. little brother Jack, who’s should be sleeping by now. I love you more than anything in the world. I love you the most. My parents came to a country with almost nothing to give their daughter everything, and now I have that because they could be with me in this moment. Mama baba shisha. And sitting with them, my middle school video production teacher, Mrs. Diane Williams, who spent countless hours on my submission for that contest. that changed my life. Like public school teachers across the United States, Mrs. Williams looked at a 13-year-old kid and said, you can be whatever you want when you grow up, and she meant it. My story is like that of so many in this room and in this country, only in America. Only in America could a little girl born in China and raised in Appalachian coal country make her way to the Oval Office to ask questions of the President of the United States.”

BREAKING 🚨🚨🚨: Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara has been granted an extortionary short order of notice hearing, that will take place this Friday, July 31st, at 10AM on the first floor of Norfolk Superior Court, in an effort to retain her position (after she alleges she was forced out for trying to cooperate with the FBI about the coverup of Sandra Birchmore's murder which, in turn, involves "multiple current and former" members of the Stoughton Police Department). Chief McNamara will, in turn, be able to make oral arguments to the Hon. Rosemary Connolly that, under the four-factor TRO test in Massachusetts, McNamara should be put back in her job, via court order, pending the final disposition of McNamara's current civil lawsuit (file Monday) against the town of Stoughton. Read Judge's order , granting that hearing on short notice, here (Judge's order is an endorsement on the motion and, also, the hearing in on the MassCourt's docket --2682CV00852-- for Friday) - McNamara, alleges her new lawsuit, was constructively dismissed, under false pretext, by the Stoughton Town manager because McNamara was a woman and, also, because McNamara would not stay silent about a 2024 IA investigation into the coverup of Sandra's death. Further, as I reported on Monday, McNamara alleges, in June of 2026, she told the Stoughton Town Manager that the FBI's trial prep, leading up to Matthew Farwell's October, 2026, trial for Sandra's murder (and the murder of Sandra's unborn 8-10 week old baby boy) would require McNamara to expand investigations into the aforementioned "current and former" members of the Stoughton PD. On Monday, I reported the following; Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara, in a new lawsuit filed today, confirmed that --as a result of ongoing FBI investigations in June of 2026 regarding Sandra Birchmore-- there may be new misconduct investigations of "current and former" Stoughton police officers. Brian Tully's State Police unit, including John Fanning and Yuri Bukhenik, cleared then-Stoughton cop Matthew Farwell for responsibility for Sandra's death in 2021 (despite a litany of evidence linking Farwell to the crime, and to a years-long grooming/abuse ring targeting Sandra involving the Stoughton Police Explorer's Program). Both Bukhenik and Fanning, of note, used to work in Stoughton as police officers before moving on to work for Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey's State Police Detective Unit (as did Farwell's brother, William Farwell). Fanning, for his part, personally wrote the state police report clearing Farwell for a role in Sandra's death (and the death of Sandra's unborn 8-10 week old baby boy). In turn, at the time (in 2021), Fanning reported to his Sergeant (Bukhenik) and, also, Bukhenik's boss, Detective-Lieutenant Brian Tully. Read that new lawsuit here: Earlier in June of 2026, for more context and background, I reported; In a new motion from Matthew Farwell via the Sandra Birchmore federal docket, it has been revealed that law enforcement officers were the subject of ongoing federal investigations as recently as April of 2026. This has potential major implications regarding the state police and their initial coverup of Sandra's murder. That state police unit, detailed to the Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey, included Brian Tully, John Fanning, Yuri Bukhenik, Michael Proctor and Nick Guarino. Shockingly, Fanning (who wrote the initial MSP report clearing Farwell for Sandra's murder, years before the federal government indicted Farwell) used to work as a cop in Stoughton. Stoughton was the town where the town where Farwell groomed Sandra, via the Police Explorer's program, in 2014. Farwell, alleges the federal government, murdered Sandra, and her unborn 8-10 week old baby boy, on February 1st, 2021, circa 9:27PM ET. Then, somehow, the Canton Police Department (including Kevin Albert) discovered information, between February 4-6th of 2021, that Farwell was the man captured on video at Sandra's apartment at the time of her murder, that Farwell had admitted to others that he had abused Sandra since she was a child and, further, that Farwell had stated that he was going to take care of the problem himself if Sandra insisted on carrying her unborn baby boy to term. Farwell, at the time, was under the impression he was the father of Sandra's unborn baby boy...although subsequent DNA testing determined Farwell was not the father. This new information related to the ongoing federal investigation was revealed by Farwell in a filing asking for a bill of particular ahead of Farwell's august, 2026, trial at Boston Moakley Federal courthouse. Of note, as the Proctorgate scandal unfolds (regarding abhorrent messages sent by Michael Proctor and his friends - including one where Sean Goode called Sandra Birchmore a slur for mentally disabled people soon after her murder), one of the people potentially involved in Proctor's group chat was a man named "Larry" Kennedy. This man is potentially the husband of Meg Kennedy (who was Sandra Birchmore's guidance counselor). Shockingly, Meg Kennedy's close friend is Karen Read trial witness (and someone who "did not know Michael Proctor before 2023," per her trial testimony) Jen McCabe. Read that report here - Then, on July 21st of 2026, I reported; Matthew Farwell has LOST his motion for a bill of particulars ahead of his August, 2026, federal trial for the death of Sandra Birchmore (and her unborn 8-10 week-old baby boy)...a case initially covered up by the Norfolk DA and Brian Tully/John Fanning's MSP unit. Quoting Chief Judge Casper; "Given the Court’s ruling about the sufficiency of the superseding indictment, the production of discovery and the supplemental disclosures, the Court concludes that a bill of particulars is not warranted where Farwell has been put on notice of the nature of the charges against him, will not be caught by unfair surprise at trial, or hampered in his defense or protection from double jeopardy." Link (via Kyle Sharkey): Previously, on July 9, 2026, I reported: NEW: Here is the latest document filed by the federal government in the Sandra Birchmore/Matthew Farwell case ahead of Farwell's August, 2026, trial. Sandra WAS NOT in contact with federal LEO before she was killed, but she may have attempted to make such contact if Farwell did not take Sandra's life (and the life of her unborn baby). Quoting from page 3 of the new motion from the office of U.S. Attorney for The District Of Massachusetts, Leah Foley; "Third, even if Farwell were entitled to more information about the evidence, his requests are improper because they are based on a misinterpretation of the elements of Section 1512(a)(1)(C). From the text and his emphasis on the word “federal,” the premise for Request Nos. 2 through 4 appears to be that the government must prove that Farwell killed Birchmore intending to prevent a communication to a specific federal law enforcement officer. That is not the law. Section 1512(g)(2) eliminated any mens rea requirement regarding the federal status of the putative recipient of a communication that the killing prevented. See 18 U.S.C. § 1512(g)(2). And in Fowler, the Court held that Section 1512(a)(1)(C) “covers a defendant who kills with intent to prevent communication with law enforcement generally (i.e., with any and all law enforcement officers).” Fowler, 563 U.S. at 673. Here, the Court should deny the motion because Farwell seeks evidence regarding something the government does not have to prove. Finally, while the Superseding Indictment and the tens of thousands of pages of discovery have apprised the defendant of the nature of the charges and mitigate any genuine risk of surprise at trial, the government will supplement its disclosures with the following representations regarding Request Nos. 1 and 5:  Request No. 1. Matthew Farwell sought to prevent communications by Sandra Birchmore, the person who contacted the Stoughton Police Department on January 20, 2021 (Superseding Indictment, ¶ 7), and any similarly situated persons to whom Birchmore made disclosures about the conduct underlying Farwell’s identified federal crimes (Superseding Indictment, ¶¶ 4–5, 11). Request No. 5. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), including its agents and task force officers, are the federal law enforcement officers to whom at least one relevant communication would have been made." Link to filing - Farwell's trial is scheduled to begin on October 5th of 2026 at the Moakley Courthouse in Boston. Towel News will have wall-to-wall coverage of the entire trial from the courtroom (although no cameras will be permitted).

Remembering film director Lloyd Bacon on his Birthday Born | December 4, 1889 in San Jose, California, USA Died | November 15, 1955 aged 65 in Burbank, California, USA Video | The “By a Waterfall” production number from Footlight Parade (1933) featuring 300 choreographed swimmers. One of the workhorses in Warner Brothers' stable of directors in the 1930s, Lloyd Bacon didn't have a career as loaded with classic films as many of his more famous contemporaries. What few “classics” he had his hand in (42nd Street (1933), Footlight Parade (1933) are so overshadowed by the dazzling surrealistic choreography of Busby Berkeley that casual film buffs today often forget they were actually directed by Bacon. While his resume lacks the drama of failed productions and tales of an unbridled ego, he consistently enriched the studio's coffers, directing a handful of its biggest hits of the late 1920s and 1930s. Bacon's career amounts to that of a competent ― and at times brilliant ― director who did the best with the material handed to him in assembly-line fashion. Lloyd Bacon was born into a theatrical family (his father was Frank Bacon, a playwright and stage actor). His parents enlisted all the Bacon children onto the stage. Despite having a strong interest in law as a student at Santa Clara College, Lloyd opted for an acting career after appearing in a student production of “The Passion Play”. In 1911 he joined David Belasco's Los Angeles Stock Company (with Lewis Stone), touring the country and gaining good notices in a Broadway run of the hit “Cinderella Man”, and gaining further experience during a season of vaudeville. He switched gears in 1915 and took a stab at silent Hollywood, playing the heavy in several of Gilbert M. 'Broncho Billy' Anderson's shorts and pulling double duty as a stunt man. With America's entry into World War I in 1917, Bacon enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the Photo Department. This began a lifelong admiration for the service and might explain the Navy being a favourite recurring theme in many of his films. After the war's end Bacon moved from Mutual (Charles Chaplin's studio at the time) to Triangle as a comedy actor. It was at this point that he got his first taste of directing ― he had let everyone at the studio know he had an interest in helming a picture, and when the director of a now forgotten Lloyd Hamilton comedy short fell ill, Bacon was given his chance. Constantly moving, he joined tightwad producer Mack Sennett as a gag writer. Sennett, sensing a bargain, happily accommodated Lloyd's desire to become a full-time director by early 1921. The Sennett studio was already in an irreversible decline during Bacon's tenure there but it allowed the novice director to gain a wealth of experience. He apprenticed for Sennett until joining Warner Brothers in 1925, an association that would last a remarkable 18 years and begin when the working-man's studio was building a strong stable of contract directors that included Michael Curtiz, Alan Crosland, John G. Adolfi and Mervyn LeRoy. Although Lloyd never became known for a particular style other than a well-placed close up, his ability to bring in an entertaining film on time and within budget earned him such enormous respect from the five Warner Brothers that he was soon handed control over important projects, including The Singing Fool (1928), Al Jolson's follow-up to The Jazz Singer (1927), which grossed an unheard-of (for Warners, at least) $4,000,000 in domestic receipts alone ― the studio's #1 hit for 1928. Bacon was rewarded by becoming the highest paid director on the studio lot, earning over $200,000 a year throughout the Depression. He was called upon to direct the studio's big-budget production of Moby Dick (1930), which garnered good notices, but it's a version that's barely remembered today. The 1930s saw Bacon assigned to the assembly line; aside from the Busby Berkeley-choreographed films, he directed many of James Cagney's crowd-pleasing two-week wonders, including Picture Snatcher (1933) (Cagney once remarked that the schedule on that picture was so tight that, one time after he and the cast had rehearsed a particular scene, Cagney said, “OK, Lloyd, are you ready to shoot?” Bacon grinned and said, “I just did!”) and The Irish in Us (1935). As a reward, he was occasionally afforded more time and money on productions such as Here Comes the Navy (1934) and Devil Dogs of the Air (1935). He also directed Cagney's return effort after his ill-advised move to cheapjack Grand National Pictures after one of his periodic salary disputes with studio head Jack L. Warner ― the badly miscast if frenetic Boy Meets Girl (1938). This was one of Cagney's least critically acclaimed Warner Brothers films of the 1930s, but a smash hit for the studio. During his years at Warners, Bacon gained a reputation as a clothes horse, the dapper director arriving on the set dressed to the nines, wearing expensive hats that he would hurl around the set when expressing his dissatisfaction (he ruined a lot of hats) at an actor's performance or missed cue. Bacon continued to turn out profitable films for the studio until moving to 20th Century-Fox in 1944 (a logical move, since the recently discharged Darryl F. Zanuck knew Bacon from his early days at Warners). He stayed at Fox until 1949, then bounced among Columbia, Fox, Universal and finally the chaotically-run RKO in 1954. He worked virtually until his death from a cerebral hemorrhage at age 65.

Paul Schrader's 'Blue Collar' (1978) was a very tense shoot, because Richard Pryor, Yaphet Kotto, and Harvey Keitel argued constantly. There were fights, verbal abuse, walk-offs, and Mexican stand-offs. According to Paul Schrader, Pryor hit Kotto with a chair on camera during filming. Here is Schrader explaining the tense atmosphere & the reason why he cried during the filming of 'Blue Collar' (1978): "Schrader: [Richard Pryor was never meant to be the star of the movie]. A lot of the difficulties on the film came out of the fact that | had approached Richard and Harvey Keitel and Yaphet Kotto separately and led each of them to believe that they were the star of the movie, because that’s what it took to get them involved. You were basically introducing three bulls into a china shop and asking them to get along, and you can’t really blame the bulls when things start getting wrecked. Very early on, by the second or third day of production, Richard became convinced that he was playing the black sidekick to Harvey’s Terry Molloy, and Harvey became convinced that he was playing Ed McMann to Richard’s Johnny Carson, and Yaphet was convinced that they were both trying to ace him out, and things got very heavy. We were shooting in auto plants in Detroit and Kalamazoo in middle of a heatwave and pretty much what was happening on-screen started happening off-screen. Not a day went by without some sort of confrontation. Right after you said ‘Cut’, a fight would start. After about three weeks in, I was in the middle of the set and all of a sudden I started crying and I just couldn’t stop, something I'd never done before. The AD grabbed me and took me outside and walked me around the block and I said, ‘This is not working. The movie is never going to get finished and I'm never going to work again.” But he calmed me down and walked me back in and I guess everyone realized I wasn’t as much the iron man as | had been appearing. Richard looked at me and said, ‘You pu**y —are you gonna be a man or not on this movie?’, and I said, ‘OK, Richard, I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.’ Interviewer: Did things improve from that point on? Schrader: Part of the problem was to do with Richard’s style of acting. Being primarily versed in stand-up comedy he had a creative life of between three and four takes. The first one would be good, the second would be real good, the third would be terrific and the fourth would probably start to fall off. Whereas Harvey, with his theatrical training, very self-analytical, would work on the meaning of the scene in the early takes and then after ten takes he’d be terrific. Well, there’s virtually no way you can film those two men together, so you’d have to rehearse Harvey with a stand-in and then bring Richard in without any rehearsal. The other thing that Richard would do when he felt his performance going flat was to improvise and change the dialogue just like he would have done in front of a live audience, and he would never tell me or anyone what he was going to do. In one case I had a two-shot of Richard and Harvey where Richard just started flying, and of course Harvey tried to top him, and as soon as that happened Richard just sort of took off and became brilliant. Harvey broke a take once because he felt himself being knocked out of shot. I had to grab Harvey and get him down on the floor and yell at him, ‘Don’t you ever break shot!’, because Richard was right behind me trying to get at him. So the shooting strategy became very limited: ‘I know I may only have one take with these actors, so what’s the best one?’, and you’d work out the minimum coverage you needed and that’s all you got. Sometimes if they were in a good mood you could actually try something a little different, but by the time we shot the last scene, the one with all three of them on the sofa after the party, they hadn’t been talking to each other for a long time, and I had fallen into a prolonged pattern of script negotiations which usually began the night before and went on into the morning of shooting, talking to each of them until they were all happy with the others’ improvisations. Now the day before the sofa scene Richard had hit Yaphet with a chair on-camera, so I knew it was going to be tough. We lit the scene with extras, put their names on the sofa with pieces of tape, and the crew were all warned. The three of them came into the room in silence, there was no discussion, I said ‘Action’ and we did the first take, which ran to about four or five minutes — much too long. So I said, ‘OK, that’s very good, but it’s too long for us. We’re going to go right again. No one move, no one talk, let’s just do it a little faster. Action.’ We did that take on the same reel of film and that was two and a half minutes. I said, ‘Cut’, and Richard got up, went downstairs, got in his car and drove home. End of movie. Interviewer: All this must have given you a completely different perspective on the job of being a director than the one you’d envisaged when you were a critic. Schrader: It did. I said afterwards that if this was what movie-making was like I didn’t want to do this any more. On that film, I very quickly learned to confine myself to talent management, to making sure the actors stayed in character and the storyline remained coherent. I handed over shot selection and lighting and blocking essentially to my crew. I didn’t have time to explore those areas." Dumbing Down II "By Faith, this is the last rent I am paying as a single lady. If you support me to pay this rent, by the grace of God, this time next year, I will be in my husband's house." is back begging for support to pay another rent. Not because God didn't bring eligible suitors her way, but because her PASTOR has replaced the Holy Spirit in her life. Pastors ruin a lot of destinies when they insist on playing God instead of their primary role as destiny guides. Many members have submitted their free will to their pastors, giving their pastors the power that God himself didn't take from us from the dawn of creation. When you take the ability of the individual to act as a free agent in the name of religion, you reduce him or her to a puppet and yourself to a puppeteer. You want to pull the strings of the lives of thousands of born-again Christians at the same time while rendering them useless to follow their paths in Christ and grow into mature sons. I was at a Church in Anthony village about three years ago to minister, and I met this young man who was schooled at a very prestigious university in the USA. He was the in-house IT consultant of the church, and the pastor placed him on a monthly stipend while he was working for God. It was the Pastor who introduced the young man to me while boasting that God had given him the most capable hands to help him in ministry. I asked him if he had any Python, Java, cloud engineering, data management, digital marketing, coding, or similar tasks available for the young man in the church. He said no. I said, "You are giving this young man the job that any young school leaver who is proficient in computer appreciation can do, and you don't see it as limiting his capabilities and rendering his skills obsolete?" You would rather boast that you are ruining a destiny to build up your own profile rather than set this young man on the path of excellence? Did God call him into ministry as a preacher? Is he understudying you in preparation for his own ministry? The pastor said, "No, I plan that as the church expands, he will head our digital infrastructure and position us for the future." I said, "He can do that as a consultant or even as a member, he shouldn't be doing that while you are paying him 100,000 Naira a month. He should be out there, flying with his peers and earning in dollars! The only exception is if the Lord has called him to be a preacher and he is understudying you as your personal assistant, as led by the Lord as part of his season of preparation. Anything other than that is injurious to his destiny!" The pastor had never seen it that way When I was done ministering in the church, the young man hugged me and thanked me profusely. He said his mother sent him to the pastor when he returned from the USA and the pastor immediately told him that God had need of him in the ministry or he would die without fulfilling his purpose. Why do pastors do this? I have another case from the Northern part of Nigeria. A young lady reached out to me seeking clarity regarding her future She said her Apostle told her she has been raised by God to sing in his church choir, but she is a medical doctor by training and desires to further her studies abroad Every time she raised the issue with the Apostle, he shut her down and told her she was struggling with the will of God "Why can't you just submit to God and serve in the choir and watch as God will take your voice all over the world as this ministry grows?" The young lady said she knows she has a good voice and sings very well as one who is full of the Holy Spirit, but she does not want to be "Sinach", she wants to fulfil her dream of practising as a Pediatrician. She was wary of incurring the wrath and curse of the Apostle, however, and did not know how to extricate herself from the situation. The apostle did not see anything wrong with his actions because he was a user of people who believed that in order to fulfill his own desire to become a big ministry, others could not thrive and grow in their visions and ministries as ordained by God. This is witchcraft. It is not of God. Jesus didn't lead his disciples this way. Insecurity is the undoing of many African so-called Pastors and Spiritual leaders, and they hide behind the illusion of divinity to put others in bondage. I experienced this firsthand as a young graduate, so I understand how a pastor trying to build his ministry could see the potential in a young man or woman and try very hard to turn such a person into servants and house helps in the name of discipling them or training them for kingdom relevance You graduate from the University and join the labour force, you apply for many jobs, and at a point, you tell yourself it is important to seek supernatural guidance in your quest to fulfil destiny Somebody somewhere tells you about a church or a ministry, you join, and you are convinced the church is good. You also tell your friends, and they join. But you are all fresh graduates who are heading into the future one way or the other, but this pastor wants you to be his flock. To him, his church of ten members had suddenly become a church of 30 members because of you guys, and he wants to keep the numbers growing, so he begins to give you prophesies that were not of God but with the aim of keeping you in the fold for as long as possible. He told young graduates who ought to go for NYSC that God is telling him they should give it up for service to God in the vineyard. The mother of two of the ladies in the fellowship, whose daughters told that the pastor told them not to go for NYSC, quickly removed them from the fellowship before the seed of corruption being planted by this pastor would bear fruit The others also left as soon as they could gather their wit People who you ought to guide on their path in sincerity ran as far as they could from you based on how you chose to manipulate rather than nurture them. A married woman whose husband worked abroad was a trained secretary, and while her husband was abroad, catering to the needs of the family, he begged her to stop working so that she could focus on raising the children. She was raising five children all by herself, and combining this with a job seemed a bit too much at the time. One of the vital institutions for raising godly children was the church This woman attended church regularly with her children and even volunteered to spend any free time she had typing the pastor's sermons, Sunday School pamphlets, handouts, books, journals, and other church reports and documents She was not officially employed to do the work; she just saw that she could take some of the secretarial duties on during her downtime, and she did so with all sincerity. The church enjoyed her free services for five years until the pastor forgot completely that she was doing the church a favour One day, the woman came to church to tell the pastor that her husband would be returning home to visit the family, and she would not be available for a few days because she had to pick her husband up from the airport and ensure that he settled in properly. Unfortunately, that weekend was the weekend of the church's anniversary, and the pastor had a lot of secretarial work to do. He told the woman God said she should pick one. Heaven or marriage. He said if she goes to pick her husband from the airport, she has chosen the world and forsaken the Lord. The woman wept all the way home, It was not the thank you, thou faithful servant report she had worked day and night for many years to get that she received. She went to pick her husband from the airport and distanced herself from any church founded by any individual after that experience. She said the ambition of church founders requires that they use people to build, even though they lacked the resources to pay or compensate such people, so they resort to blackmail, coercion, lies, fake prophesies, promises, and manipulations to get things done while keeping their followers on a leash. Followers are also enablers as they refuse to read the Bible for themselves and walk in the light of the word of God. No one should be able to take you captive in the name of God, Jesus, all the angels, or any form of miracle if you know the word of God. The word of God is profitable to make one wise, and therefore, anyone who knows the word of God cannot fall victim to any false doctrine, teaching, spiritual manipulations, or lies. All the false teachings of someone being a covering for someone else came from these manipulative narratives, and believers should be wise to them. I have seen a pastor declare that his church is the only church in Africa that is licensed by God to take people to heaven, and some members believed him. The day he said that, all his members ought to laugh, pick up their Bibles, and leave without looking back. Self-aggrandisement has become the order of the day in some churches, the pastor sells himself as the be-all and end-all of the member's spiritual enlightenment, and the members sheepishly surrender their eyes of their understanding to him or her. He or she must determine where they work, whom they marry, who they associate with, whose music they must listen to, and whose sermons they must hear. If they want to travel, he must see if the road is clear on their behalf, if they want to build a house, he must approve, if he does not dedicate their baby, the baby is illegitimate. This is not the faith Christ or the Apostles died for. Jesus died that you might be free of religion. Christianity is not a religion, it is the opposite. It is individualistic and determined by the faith and belief system of the one rather than the many. Salvation, therefore, is a personal affair, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit is also a personal affair Religion is the opium of the masses, and Christianity is the salvation of the individual and his or her walk with God. When we fellowship together, we do so not so we can get brainwashed by one "super Christian" but so that we can minister to the Lord and minister to one another in the presence of God. Every believer must hold this truth to be self-evident. PS: Someone sent me the video of a pastor condemning a song recently released by a fellow believer, which is making a global impact The Pastor represents an old school of Christians who are unfit to be custodians of the gospel due to their rigidity and limited understanding of the finished work of Christ. Disciples of the gospel of Works and Performance lack creativity and discernment but are good stewards of rigidity and religious doctrines. In other words, a Pharisee must act like one, and Jesus must act like Jesus. We are all just being true to our nature. "I can never go back o No...No It's already too late o No...No Where Am I going to... No...No" If you read to this point, when I was in Spain, I asked a very important question about a meal. If you know the answer, I'm inside the comment section. -GSW-
