"We love this country... because so many of us either know firsthand or through our parents or grandparents what life is like in other countries." "It's the place that gave us freedom. It's a place that gave us opportunity." Secretary of State Marco Rubio reflects on what America means to Hispanic families during President Trump's Hispanic Heritage Month event, pointing to generations who came to the country seeking a different future. Rubio, whose parents immigrated from Cuba, says the ultimate opportunity is being able to leave the next generation better off.

Almost every founder has to survive some version of what Gabe describes here Although Rogo has raised over $300M, 40 investors passed on their Series A (except Keith Rabois) Gabe on why every pass at that stage is a pass on the founder: "I met with Sequoia, Kleiner, Benchmark, everybody, and 40 people passed. And it wasn't just, you got the email with the deck and it's not exciting. It was, 'Oh, this is interesting. Let me meet Gabe. Oh, I kinda like Gabe. Let me spend an hour with him. Oh, Gabe, come to IC. Oh, Gabe, let's go to dinner. Oh, Gabe, come in for the weekend.' You know what? We're gonna pass. And it's so personal, because at that stage it has nothing to do with anything but you. Keith Rabois came a month after everyone else had rejected us, and Keith was like, 'Gabe, this isn't a contrarian bet. It's basically just Harvey for finance. Why would I do it?' And I said, 'Keith, if it's not contrarian, why did every single one of your friends just say it was a bad idea and not believe in me?'"

Today we contemplate the incomprehensible sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The God of all the universe willingly accepted being nailed to a cross so that we would have access to eternity with Him. Gabe Poirot saw Jesus during his 18 days in a coma, and his encounter beautifully sums up what Good Friday is all about. Gabe had his head down in shame, but Jesus lifted his head and said: "𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿?” “And He showed me the wounds in His wrist, and they carried the depth of eternity,” Gabe told me. “And His wounds had a name — Gabriel — He did it just for me.” His wounds had Gabe’s name. His wounds have my name. His wounds have your name. Our sin nailed Him to a cross, and His sacrifice paved a path to eternity. Today, we praise Him. We thank Him for an act of love that defies logic and understanding.

Here's a bittersweet story about Gabe Newell. During the development of Portal 2, Gabe realised he was a victim of the George Lucas effect, where he could no longer be involved in a team developing a game because people would just agree with him because of his status so he made the decision to step back and just be the CEO. I very much worry about the day when Gabe is no longer in control of Valve/Steam
