who created this universe? king janak asked ashtavakra “who created this universe?” king janak asked ashtavakra — and the answer shattered the very idea of a creator. ashtavakra points out that this question arises only when the mind assumes everything must have a maker. but what if creation is not something done by someone? what if it simply appears the moment thought appears? in this short dialogue, ashtavakra explains that the universe is not made like a pot by a potter. it arises in awareness the way reflections arise in a mirror. no doer behind it. no beginning. no end. he reminds king janak that as long as one keeps asking “who created this,” one remains trapped inside the story of the mind. but when attention turns toward the one in whom the question arises, the whole story dissolves. this is not philosophy. it is a direct invitation to see that the universe is not something outside of you. it appears in consciousness, and when the mind becomes silent, no creator is found and no creation remains — only awareness, silent and whole. source: inspired by the spirit and teachings of the ashtavakra gita (advaita vedanta)
