Turns out last week, her appointee taxed all market women and Iyeki’s up to ₦1.5M. Because the new Iyaloja general of Edo State is claiming the Governor Appointed her Iyeki General, according to market women [Video]. Two days ago, Folashade Ojo-Tinubu was in Benin inaugurated her selected market leaders to control Edo Markets.. led by, Pastor (Mrs.) Josephine Isi Ivbazebule as the Iyeki-General of the state. (Iyaloja of all Edo Markets). According to rumors, Folashade was expected at the palace since 29th of September. However, after the said official—unofficial inauguration, seemingly endorsed by the state governor. Because it held at the Government house. Folashade made a trip to The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II’s palace to pay a “courtesy visit” and “introduce” him to the new, first ever Edo State Iyaloja General/ Iyeki General. Upon presenting her appointee, Oba Ewuare II, told her that the idea of Iyaloja is alien to him and the Benin Kingdom. I co-sponsored and supported a motion moved by my sister, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, on the Urgent Need to Reject the proposed Ceding of parts of Edo state for the creation of Toru-Be State. A proposal that if allowed, would unlawfully carve out several ancestral and economic communities from Edo State. I emphasized that communities such as Ughoton, Siluko, Udo, Ekewan, Obazuwa and several others cannot and must not be ceded in the name of state creation. These communities are not just settlements; they are pillars of our identity, deeply tied to the history, traditions, and authority of the Benin Kingdom. These communities also have embedded vast Crude Oil deposits so if Ceded, it will be a great economic loss for the revenue generation of Edo State. Edo is not for Sale. Yesterday, I visited the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, His Royal Highness, Zaiki Anthony Ehizojie Abumere Il, following the protest in Ekpoma that resulted in the attack of the palace and widespread destruction of property in the community. Having met with the stakestakeholders, I want to reassure the good people of Edo State that your safety remains my top priority. My administration has made strong investments in modern security equipment, intelligence gathering, and collaboration among security agencies, and these efforts are already yielding results in our fight against kidnapping, cultism, and other crimes. Let me be clear: Edo State will not be taken hostage by criminals or their sponsors. Anyone involved in kidnapping or any form of criminal activity will be tracked down and brought to justice. There will be no hiding place for them. While we respect the right of citizens to express themselves peacefully, I urge everyone to remain calm, vigilant, and law abiding, and not allow anyone to exploit genuine concerns to threaten the peace of our state. Security operations are ongoing across Edo, and my government is firmly in control of the situation. Together with our security agencies and with the support of our people, we will continue to restore and sustain peace across Edo State.
