Golden Axe: The Duel (1994) by Sega took the Golden Axe series into one-on-one fighting, introducing a new generation of warriors battling for the legendary axe. Running on Sega's ST-V arcade hardware, it combined large character sprites, weapon-based combat, and fantasy-themed special moves, making it feel like Sega's answer to the 2D fighter boom of the mid-90s. A damn shame it doesn't play that good, but still worth checking out.

“Golden Axed” was a cancelled Prototype (originally known as Golden Axe Reborn) that now exists as a short, unfinished proof-of-concept demo. It was a planned 3D reboot of Sega’s classic 1989 beat ’em up Golden Axe by Sega Studios Australia. The prototype was developed very quickly—in roughly two weeks—by a small team. Sega since released it for free on Steam for a limited time (around October 18, 2020) as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, alongside other retro-related titles

Asterix for the Sega Master System is a high-quality 8-bit platformer released in 1991 by Sega. With good graphics, responsive controls and distinct character mechanics (you start with Asterix then change to Obelix later, etc.), it's another late gem for the system that was positively received. Released in Japan, Europe and Brazil, it was unsurprisingly omitted from the North American market (probably because the comic book isn't popular there).
