Gone in 60 Seconds is another example of how deep & how excellent Robert Duvall’s filmography was over the course of basically 6 decades. This isn’t one of Duvall’s best films, but it’s entertaining as hell. This was a TNT/TBS mainstay. It’s begging for a rewatch right now.

Widows is a damn good film that was totally overlooked by The Academy. I’ve been thinking about this film more lately because it’s one of Robert Duvall’s final films. I love this entire cast. Every actor in this film is excellent. And it’s a great Chicago movie. It deserved more.

Robert Duvall earned an #Oscar nomination for The Apostle & it’s one of the best performances of Duvall’s entire career. I think this entire movie is incredibly underrated because the story here is really simple but really interesting. Duvall does everything right in this film.

Robert Duvall’s comedic timing was his secret weapon. Films like Kicking & Screaming are part of why he was such a legend. This man starred in The Godfather & Apocalypse Now but still knew how to make audiences laugh. That’s probably why he lived until he was 95 years old.

It’s Robert Duvall’s birthday. You remember him. The Godfather. Apocalypse Now. And, of course, co-star to Ally McCoist in “A Shot at Glory”…

Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen in The Godfather Part 1 & 2 is some of the best casting I’ve ever seen. On Duvall’s 95th birthday, it’s important to remember that this man was the unsung hero of two of cinema’s biggest films. His absence from The Godfather Part 3 is so apparent. 🎂

With Robert Duvall’s passing today we’re going to see a lot of references to The Godfather. And, understood. But please get into his other films. This one, The Paper, is a great revisit of his impact within a movie and it’s just interesting considering the evolution of media.

Robert Duvall’s entrance here in Apocalypse Now is unforgettable & the perfect embodiment of his character, Lieutenant Kilgore. Duvall’s barely in this film but every last line is memorable & it lead to an Oscar nomination. Losing Duvall earlier this year was a total gut punch. I miss seeing this man in movies.

Robert Duvall’s scenes with Sean Penn in Colors are unforgettable. I wrote about Colors just last week because of how much I love Dennis Hopper, who directed this film. With both Hopper & Duvall now gone, it’s Penn who carries the torch. Cinema never dies. It’s literally forever.

I’ve been getting into some of Robert Duvall’s deep cuts lately & that includes Joe Kidd, in which Duvall stars alongside Clint Eastwood in a film directed by John Sturges. Young Duvall was lethal. I wrote earlier about how Duvall had multiple primes. This was the first.

Tracy Letts & Sean Fennessey taught me a lot during their recent podcast in which they sorted out Robert Duvall’s Hall of Fame. This is the sort of conversation around film & acting that I wish every person was exposed to- it’s nearly 2 hours of just great knowledge-sharing.

Immigrate. Increase. Eliminate. This is one of the clearest explanations of how it works. He uses a real example of how Sharia is being implemented in Detroit right now. Listen for 30 seconds.

The Hunt for Red October made me fall in love with Cinema. It’s not just one of my favorite Sam Neill performances- it’s one of my personal favorite films. If this film was on TNT or TBS on the weekend, I was watching. It’s films like this that made Neill an inseparable part of my childhood. Love live Sam Neill.

The Lincoln Lawyer is what I consider to be the definition of a guilty pleasure film. I’m a lawyer myself & I can’t begin to tell you how inaccurate this film is legally, but it’s entertaining as hell. This was before Matthew McConaughey went on a legendary Hollywood comeback.

3 Days of the Condor isn’t just one of my favorite Robert Redford films ever- it’s one of my favorite films ever. Redford finds himself trapped in an espionage thriller that never lets up. If you haven’t seen this film, now is the time. Redford was a movie star in every sense.

Billy Bob Thornton was on with Rich Eisen today talking Robert Duvall & I’m not kidding in the slightest when I say this interview helped me cope with Duvall’s passing. I didn’t realize Thornton & Duvall made multiple films together, like here in Sling Blade. It’s a great listen.
