The two videos appended below are a part of a larger set recorded at various times between 2:30am and 4am on Sunday, evidence of the flow of rice vehicles through Badagry. After a certain Customs checkpoint, more than 60 cars parked at a particular spot were noticeable. Elsewhere, at a filling station, more than 50 cars with rice were also spotted. Many more drove into the country with unfettered access, all eventually easing their way through Customs checkpoints without hassle. Police, Customs, and military personnel clashed in Bawku yesterday, with several warning shots fired over a misunderstanding regarding a Kia Rhino truck suspected of illegally transporting cocoa to a neighboring country. According to information obtained from key sources by EDHUB, officers from the Ghana Police arrested a Kia Rhino truck after it managed to beat some security barriers while heading toward the border. The police officers were transporting the vehicle to their station under the instruction of their commander when they were intercepted by Customs officers, who insisted on taking over the vehicle and sending it to Pulmakom. The police officers maintained that they could not release the vehicle to the Customs officers, as they were only following orders from their commander. This sparked a misunderstanding between the two security teams, prompting the Customs officer to call for assistance from the military in Pulmakom, while the police also requested backup from other units. Their arrival further escalated the situation, leading to several warning shots being fired.

In this Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) video are 600 cartons of chicken and turkey, smuggled into Lagos last night by ‘Sunday Ibadan’ (pictured), IBD Dende’s right hand man, after securing the nod of Hussein Ejigbunu, Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit Zone A — a man whose media footprints is littered with announcements of smuggled goods intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service. Can you now see why I’ve repeatedly said all those publicly-announced seizures are goods belonging to smugglers who didn’t pay the right people in Customs? Specifically, these chicken and turkey cartons smuggled to Lagos overnight were loaded onto Toyota Avalon vehicles at Ohunbe and driven to Papa, for onward movement into Lagos. The cartons are ‘just’ 600 because of the discreetness necessitated by my recent writings; just two months ago, this would have been up to 10,000 bags per day. Anyway, Nigerians like to know: when will you stop misleading the public with PR and propaganda, bandying humongous IGR figures about, when the biggest smugglers are in cahoots with your most senior officers?

There was heavy gunfire this afternoon [ October 9,2024] at the Missiga Immigration Service checkpoint in Bawku after a disagreement ensued between personnel of the Ghana Police Service and Customs. According to reliable security sources, tempers flared up after some police officers refused to allow their counterparts from Customs to inspect the content of a truck moving into neighbouring Togo. The Customs suspected the truck to be transporting bags of smuggled cocoa beans and demanded to investigate. After complaining to Humberside Police they were told officers from their investigation have been diverted to deal with cases from the "riots". One victim said “Why are they so concerned that a couple of people have set a bin on fire in the middle of the town centre, but young girls are out there being raped and forced to do things that they should never, ever have to do!”

The vehicles, all newer models were estimated to cost around $150,000 but are believed to cost more in the West African subregion. Customs, IGI Airport, New Delhi Date: 20.10.2024 Seizure: 15.04 kg of Hydroponic Weed Value: ₹15.04 Crores On the basis of specific information, baggage of one international transit lady pax travelling from Bangkok to Paris via Delhi by flight AI-333 & AI143 on 20.10.2024 was brought to customs scanning machine. On being scanning of the checked in bag, the officers noticed/detected some narcotic substance. Thereafter, the on duty dog of Customs K9 squad was called for sniffing the baggage. The duty dog indicated presence of narcotics substance. The bags were opened in presence of the said Pax as per the procedure, wherein 15.046 kg of greenish brown substance appearing to be hydrophobic weed was recovered from the baggage. The recovered goods have been seized under NDPS Act, 1985. The passenger has been detained for further questioning and investigation is in process!

This message by the MD/CE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria Mrs Olubunmi Kuku is an important one. I can feel her frustrations; even from this video. I really do hope it does help to make some change happen. That said, even if these officials behave, even without the begging and soliciting, nothing will ever make seeing 18 officials in uniforms of many colours welcoming for even Nigerians returning home, let alone new visitors to Nigeria. I know this bit is beyond the FAAN. 1. NDLEA should have no business with searches or questioning of passengers. I should have no business seeing an NDLEA official except my luggage triggers their interest. Then, AVSEC can hand the passenger over to NDLEA. NDLEA can be at the airport but to be seen by a passenger means that passenger is already in trouble. 2. Customs should have limited role. This is on the back of the ruling Dr Joe Abah, OON just tweeted. It means Customs should only be required to deal with passengers who bring goods that require their attention. My small luggage should not have to be opened by customs officials ALL the time. It’s a waste of national resources and a waste of passengers’ time. 3. After the scanners, when leaving Nigeria, passengers have no business with any official except their luggage triggered a need. This message by the MD/CE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria Mrs Olubunmi Kuku is an important one. I can feel her frustrations; even from this video. I really do hope it does help to make some change happen. That said, even if these officials behave, even without the begging and soliciting, nothing will ever make seeing 18 officials in uniforms of many colours welcoming for even Nigerians returning home, let alone new visitors to Nigeria. I know this bit is beyond the FAAN. 1. NDLEA should have no business with searches or questioning of passengers. I should have no business seeing an NDLEA official except my luggage triggers their interest. Then, AVSEC can hand the passenger over to NDLEA. NDLEA can be at the airport but to be seen by a passenger means that passenger is already in trouble. 2. Customs should have limited role. This is on the back of the ruling Dr Joe Abah, OON just tweeted. It means Customs should only be required to deal with passengers who bring goods that require their attention. The captured were pulled back to the port of Sfax, beaten, handcuffed, and robbed of their phones and personal belongings. They spent the whole day at Sfax port, each in handcuffs. In the evening, they were taken into a concentration camp surrounded by barbed wire. They were later loaded into big buses and thrown into the Algerian desert without food, water, or shelter. On the 12th of July, we heard from 25 of them who, with visual evidence, reached out to us asking to be rescued but shortly ran out of battery, and to this day, the 19th of July, we have not heard from them or received any information about them. The people were captured while trying to escape Tunisia thanks to boat information provided by Frontex to the Libyan and Tunisian coast guards. For this reason we together and front-LEX have launched a legal action against Frontex.
