We made an oversight visit to the Melgisedek Buildings in the Pretoria CBD. This is a city owned property that’s been vacant for years and has become home to hundreds of homeless people. A fire broke out leaving four people injured. To protect the occupants of this area we will demolish this building. In parallel, we have applied for a court order seeking to finalise the relocation of the residents of this property. The Nakivubo channel project is a worthwhile endeavour, but if it is not handled carefully, the consequences will be dire. Ham should have first provided an engineering solution for the run-offs which flow through this channel before commencing any development works. I am not an engineer, but the first thing would have been widening and deepening the channel in order to create more room that's so far eaten up by the structure in the form of the shuttering materials used and debris. By the look of things, this is a disaster in waiting.

This woman is mistaken. Vilimale’ does not belong to its current residents. People move from place to place all the time. Vilimale’ belongs to all Maldivians. The majority of Maldivians are against cutting down trees, destroying coral reefs and similar for the sake of development. That is a very selfish thing to do. Our generation is able to enjoy the natural beauty of Maldives cause decades ago, our parents and grandparents took care of the land and caused no harm, even as hundreds of resorts and related services were developed. Otherwise, we would not be able to enjoy this today. Sadly, in the last 15 years this has been changing little by little, all in the name of development. We want to deliver the same beautiful Maldives we inherited to our unborn children too.

For over a month now, work has been going on to build a culvert in the Panchananno Gram area of the Bypass by blocking half of the road. This is causing heavy traffic jams during the busy morning hours yet Kolkata Traffic Police seems to have no problem with it. But strangely, if a block is requested at Chingrighata only at night, it is said that the entire city will come to a standstill! How long will the people of Kolkata have to wait!?
