It's because reCAPTCHA is designed to store answers you give it (not to consistently determine accuracy), that are then used to train surveillance solutions, specifically AI surveillance solutions like Flock cameras.

That's one reason to not use Firefox, also you have to do it slow as it never works when done fast.
