Michael Popok: There is a choreography going on where the DOJ is not going to defend the Federal Tort Claims Act cases. They're going to fold. They're going to settle. Effectively, the Jan 6ers were told by the DOJ, "File your lawsuit under the Federal Tort Claims Act and we will pay you." So forget about the Jan 6th fund. The fund was always a ruse. It was always a red herring to distract attention from the fact that the DOJ is willing to use your taxpayer dollars to pay insurrectionists to attack Capitol Police. And they're going to use Todd Blanche to do it.

Republican opposition to Trump’s $1.776 billion slush fund is continuing to grow. Rep. Mike Flood of Nebraska publicly came out against the fund, saying: “I do not think one penny of any fund should ever go to any January 6 insurrectionist.” Flood said taxpayers should not be funding people who committed violence against law enforcement. Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi are now pushing bipartisan legislation to outlaw the fund entirely. At the same time, three separate federal lawsuits are already challenging the fund in court. Scott MacFarlane reports on the latest.

Nearly $1.8 billion in taxpayer money cannot be moved into a new DOJ fund without clear legal authority, defined eligibility standards, or oversight. The American people deserve to know where the money is coming from, who may receive payments from it, and what safeguards exist to protect taxpayers. Yesterday, I called on DOJ to provide those answers. And today, I introduced the Bipartisan Transparency for American Taxpayers Act with Tom Suozzi to ensure federal funds cannot be used for the “Anti-Weaponization Fund”. Taxpayer dollars will never be turned into a discretionary payout fund. Transparency is not optional. Accountability is not negotiable. 🔗: I joined Jake Tapper 🦅 to discuss—watch below ⬇️:
