Now you have two choices, refill the hole and go about your business, or let some liberal judge take away everything you own, and give it to the criminal. It’s sad that we live in a society where criminals are coddled.

Just to mess with him, I would start shoveling dirt on him and ask, any final statements?

In Canada, the owner gets charged, and the trespasser walks free.

Then a liberal judge awards all your possessions to the trespasser.

In America, traps are illegal, and the homeowner goes to jail in this situation. That is because traps are indiscriminate.

That's better than porch pirates but we really need a "pit cam" so we can watch the guy as he cries.

That trailer should sit on a concrete pad. The owner should begin construction promptly.

Well, you can hear him, so either he somehow missed the Punji stakes or the trapper forget to include them in the trap........ 😎

It's illegal here in Kentucky. But should it be? We've spent a fortune putting up cameras and no trespassing signs ,but still get the occasional uninvited guest who when caught have uninvited guests. The excuses are not believable at all.

people who say he's gonna get sued, it depends on the situation and country. booby traps are illegal in most countries but you have to consider that it wasnt a booby trap. he can easily say it was for wild hogs or other animals.

Booby traps have been illegal for about 100 years It might seem funny, except you were liable for the injuries the criminal sustained attempting to steal your property It’s the exact same thing as walking outside and shooting the person unalive who is attempting to steal your car/property inside your easement.

Not too bright. Now the crook gets your snowmobile and your car, and your house, and a huge cash settlement. Setting booby traps like the one in the X post is illegal in all 50 US states because they can harm anyone, not just intruders, and violate laws against excessive force for property protection. Homeowners could face criminal charges, such as assault with a deadly weapon, and civil lawsuits for damages, potentially leading to fines, imprisonment, and financial liability for injuries caused. One notable case is Katko v. Briney (1971), where a homeowner set a spring-loaded shotgun in an uninhabited house, which injured a trespasser. The Iowa Supreme Court ruled against the homeowner, holding them liable for battery. The trespasser, Marvin Katko, was awarded $20,000 in actual damages and $10,000 in punitive damages, totaling $30,000 (adjusted for inflation, this would be significantly higher today). Another example is the case of Philip Connaghan in Colorado, where a warehouse owner set a shotgun booby trap that killed a teenage intruder. Although the specific monetary punishment isn't detailed in the available information, Connaghan was ordered to stand trial for reckless manslaughter and violating a Colorado law prohibiting booby traps, indicating potential severe legal consequences. These cases illustrate that setting such traps can lead to substantial financial penalties, in addition to possible imprisonment and other legal repercussions. The exact punishment can vary by state and the specifics of the case, but the financial aspect often includes compensatory and punitive damages to the injured party.
