Ban a chess cheater for life. One engine erases a career of trust and the game is small enough to notice.

gotham has seen enough cheating drama to write the rulebook himself

A tournament ban should follow the person, not just the account.

People out here literally hiding vibrating devices in their shoes just to cheat at a board game, the full lifetime ban is completely deserved 💀"

the hard part is proof. online you can flag someone because their moves match an engine at a weird rate, but over the board you have to actually catch the device or the signal. same cheating, totally different evidence problem, so the punishments end up uneven

Jail shouldn’t be the starting point. Cheating in an online match calls for account penalties while cheating in a serious tournament can warrant disqualification and forfeited winnings. Criminal charges should depend on evidence of actual fraud not simply breaking the rules of chess.
