It seems to me that the GOP’s only attack left on Hunter Biden is that he wasn’t qualified to be on the Board for Burisma. This simply is not true if you know how boards of directors work. His role was to help Burisma with corporate governance and transparency, as well as advise them on international expansion. He was very qualified in these areas given his previous experience. - Hunter Biden holds a law degree from Yale Law School. - He was employed by the prominent NY-based law firm Boies Schiller Flexner LLP as an attorney. During this time, he was involved quite significantly with aspects of corporate law, and governance. - He was appointed by Republican President George W. Bush to serve on the Board of Directors for Amtrak. Amtrak is the primary provider of intercity rail services in the US. Governance and transparency is crucial for Amtrak due to their public nature and federal funding. - He worked at MBNA, a major bank and credit card company as a consultant and lobbyist and also had them as a client. Obviously corporate governance and transparency is key for any bank. - He served on the board of directors for the World Food Program USA. - He cofounded a private equity firm. - He co-founded a lobbying firm. - He has worked as a consultant for other companies. If you don’t think he was qualified, then you don’t understand how boards of directors work. Let’s take a look at the Board of Directors for Fox Corporation. Both Paul Ryan and Anne Dias are on their board. Dias is a hedge fund CEO, with little to no experience in media, entertainment or broadcasting. Paul Ryan is a former politician. Boards of Directors are supposed to be made up of people of different backgrounds, not just experts on what that corporation does. Hunter Biden shouldn’t have taken the job because of the appearance of a conflict of interest, but to say he wasn’t qualified, is just wrong.

However, the petition was not received, as the office of the Chairman of the Indongo Trust was closed at the time of their arrival. In their petition, the family members called for greater representation of the founder's children and immediate family in the governance structures of the Indongo Group and Indongo Trust. They argued that, as members of the founder's immediate family, they should have a meaningful role in decision-making concerning the future of the institutions established by Indongo, including matters relating to his legacy, interests and long-term wishes. The family members expressed concern that their voices and interests have allegedly been excluded from important discussions concerning the group's business affairs and the future management of the founder's legacy because his children and family members were removed from the board. They further called for a review of the positions and terms of office of Shipanga and Amadhila, alleging that their respective terms had expired. The family raised concerns regarding who holds the authority to renew or extend the terms of office for Shipanga and Amadhila. COUNCIL OF STATE APPROVES PROF AMUPITAN AS INEC CHAIRMAN NOMINEE The National Council of State has unanimously approved the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. At the meeting which just ended moments ago, President Bola Tinubu presented the nominee, following the exit of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who served from 2015 to October 2025. President Tinubu told the Council that Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Kogi State in the North-Central region, is the first person from that zone to be nominated to head the electoral body and described him as apolitical. Council members endorsed the nomination, with Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo calling him a man of integrity. In line with the Constitution, the President will now forward Amupitan’s name to the Senate for screening and confirmation. The 58-year-old law professor is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Jos, where he has taught since 1989. He specialises in Company Law, Evidence, and Corporate Governance, and became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2014.
