“You're not entitled to get what you want. I love you. You're entitled to earn what you're willing to go work for. And that's true in our families, in our parenting, in our marriage, in our companies, in society. If we want it, go earn it. If that's positivity, have positivity. I think and I am a positive person. I am jacked. I am excited. Obviously, you can feel my energy through technology here, I hope. Frankly, think positive people just need to get a lot stronger. I really do. I mean, I don't want to call them weak because people hear that differently but it kind of is. Look, if you want that positivity to stick, you’ve got to get tougher. Not sacrifice your love and your care and your empathy, but you got to get tough. And then we have to figure out how to love the people who are cynical because I don't think there's a ton of bad people in the world and I don't think there's a ton of bad people on teams. But I do think there are people who've been burned out. I do think there are people who have been through things in their lives. They've been through things in their company. They're experiencing stuff somewhere else. For whatever reason, they just kind of got run down and cynical and negative, or whatever. Or they're just wired a little different than we are. And I don't to hate on those people. I want to win those people. They don't have to be like me. They don't have to have my energy. But I want those people on my team. I want to love those people. And if eventually they choose that they don't believe in the same things that I believe in, I want to make it really clear and obvious that they don't want to be on this team because we're not about that. You know what I'm saying? I want it to be very easy, obvious, that, ‘Hey I should not be on this team. Because this team is full of very positive people who have great energy and talk to people, not about them.’ And we solve problems. We don't complain. We don't get defensive. We're real. I recognize I'm imperfect and I'm vulnerable to show you that about me. I want to be on that kind of a team. And if there's somebody who doesn’t believe in that stuff, I want to make it really easy for them to say, ‘Look, I don't want to be on this team. I don't wanna live like you guys live. I don't want do what you guys do.’ And then I really hope that that person leaves us and goes and joins our competitor.”

Is it possible to have an entire company of A players? Adam has 400 employees and a $150 billion market cap. His answer to this question was insightful: “We expect our engineers to be product people so we don't have much of a product org. We expect them to be A players. Now to have a team of A players you've got to be able to recognize A players. I know that Giovanni is an A-plus player. I know that he has no tolerance for anything that's not an A player. He's very quick to go "You've got to be at this level or you're out." Putting people like that in leadership roles allows me to have confidence because they're impatient and they're not going to enable talent that's not qualified in these key roles. You're always turning over people that don't meet your need. You want to be as lean as possible. Now when you have an A player you don't want to cut those people. Those people are super powerful—especially as we go forward. You're going to need lean teams that know how to use AI. Your best people know how to use AI better than your mediocre people and it's not by some sort of linear function. It's much greater than that. Our team is constructed to have leaders who are A players or A-plus players who can see the A players underneath and who have no patience for anything that's not a A player and are very willing to fire on sight if they feel like you're not cutting it. Because we are lean most of our people are very smart. But sometimes being smart is not enough. You've got to be really into building what we want to build. If you're not cut out for it you're going to get really good severance and you go off along your way.”

But I think those of us that do care need, to take steps to be as independent from the system as possible. Because every so often, this predator class, they do wealth transfers or they orchestrate and manufacture events and they make a big grab, not just for our money, but for our rights. And we're at the point where we can't really keep losing money and rights without being so deep in a hole that we can't climb ourself out. Can't climb out. "So what, what should we do before that happens? There is an important window of time to do something about it in our local community and for our families and our friends and our neighbors. And we have to do something because if we don't and that thing happens. Oh, well, I watched all these podcasts and learned about how corrupt everything is. But, you know, and I think they spend a lot of time trying to keep us distracted on all sorts of things and sucked into things that don't matter. So that we just don't give them the finger, basically. And that's what we really need to do."
