Five people, including two Anti Stock Theft Unit police officers, a National Police Reserve member and two civilians, were shot dead on Wednesday morning in Gotu, Isiolo County, after a team pursuing suspected bandits who had stolen livestock was ambushed by gunmen. In responding to these challenges – ranging from humanitarian crises to open acts of aggression – the Security Council has become too rigid, too narrow and too disconnected from today’s multipolar realities. I met one of the personal security aides to former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, who was declared wanted by the EFCC nine months ago. His security aide has also been in DSS custody for more than eight months. So, less than 24 hours after Timipre Sylva resigned from the APC, suddenly, the EFCC remembered his case after nine months. My question is: What should we call this? Why wait until now? Why not request his extradition or collaborate with the FBI or Interpol to bring him back? Why now?
