GPT-5.6 vs GPT-5.5 on my custom spaceship prompt. I gave both models the exact same custom prompt. This is also the same prompt I previously gave to Fable 5. For context, GPT-5.6 Pro worked for 87 minutes, while GPT-5.5 Extra High worked for 34 minutes and 42 seconds. As I’ve said before, based on great authority GPT-5.6 will be an incremental/soldi improvement over GPT-5.5, not a “Fable killer.” My rough expectation has been that it would trade blows with Fable 5 on some benchmarks, maybe win around half depending on the category, but not clearly surpass it overall. And again fable five will have bigger model smell, but this was expected. After testing this coding output, that view feels pretty accurate. GPT-5.6 is clearly better than GPT-5.5 in several visual areas. The lighting, shading, chairs, object details, and exterior of the spaceship looked noticeably stronger. The scene was also easier to test. I do want to give GPT-5.5 credit though. It built out the rooms much much better and the planets looked better than GPT-5.6’s. It was also interesting that both GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.6 produced better-looking planets than Fable 5 in this specific test. The downside with GPT-5.5 was stability. The game was much glitchier and harder to test compared to GPT-5.6. But when it comes to the core of the demo, which is the spaceship itself, Fable 5 still beat both models pretty comfortably. GPT-5.6 is impressive, but from this test, it looks exactly like what I expected which was a meaningful incremental improvement over GPT-5.5, at least for indie game demos, but not something that replaces Fable 5. OpenAI just released GPT-6 Astra, and OpenAI President Greg Brockman is calling it a generational leap, saying he personally believes it could mark the arrival of AGI. Astra launched on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, following July's GPT-5.6 solo release. Brockman told reporters, "For me personally, I do think we're there. Directionally, I believe this. I think we're on a path to AGI. The timing I think is kind of uncertain, but we are definitely on a path to AGI." OpenAI executives say Astra moves past the chatbot era, capable of handling end to end work on its own across browsers, spreadsheets, codebases, and enterprise apps without a human in the loop. The model was trained on over 100,000 GPUs at the Stargate site in Texas. Access starts through OpenAI's gated Daybreak Access cybersecurity program for enterprise customers, then rolls out to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, plus the API and Amazon Web Services over the coming days. Claude Fable 5 created this horror game with the same prompt we tested Fusion on. Do not fall for OpenRouters fraudulent marketing scheme. The capability of Fusion is NO WHERE close to that of Fable 5. Stringing together Opus 4.8, GPT 5.5, and DeepSeek V4 does not give you a better model. OpenRouter should be sued for false marketing.

I tested Fable 5.1 vs Kimi K3 vs GPT 5.6 Sol vs Gemini 3.8 Flash I capped Fable, Kimi & Sol at $2 and asked them to generate this beach scene. Fable 5.1: Looks good at first glance, but made many mistakes, like people sitting on the volleyball court. Kimi K3: It did well. There were no major bugs like in Fable 5.1, and everything looks good. Sol: Bad at 3D scenes as usual, but Astra will definitely fix that. Gemini 3.8 Flash: I ran it in a loop for 35+ mins and it cost $0.95. It didn’t understand what it was fixing. The output here is the enhanced version. IMO, not even Terra level. Gemini's benchmarks say Opus 5-level, but maybe not for spatial understanding. Gemini has other use cases. Which one did the best job?

I used to love playing with trains when I was younger. Recently, I saw someone create a voxel-based train table using Fable 5.1, so I had to try something similar with GPT-6 Astra using three.js. It turned out absolutely amazing! You can actually play and interact with it directly on the website, (link in the thread) start & stop the trains, rotate around the entire table, zoom in & out, & explore all the tiny details. The level of detail is really mind-blowing! This whole experience with Astra feels incredibly magical. I have so many other things I’m building right now that I don’t think I have ever felt this excited about creating! Childhood ideas, random inspirations, games I always wanted to play but don't yet exist, things I once could only imagine, I can now turn them into working, interactive experiences in matter of hours! So now we know what true AGI feels like: imagination becoming reality almost as fast as you can describe it!

We gave the same prompts through Atomic Agent: ✦ Sticky ball that rolls up everything in its path ✦ Capybara surfing down a river, Subway Surfers style ✦ Dumpling running an endless conveyor dodge Outputs: ✦ Claude Fable 5, via Atomic Agent: $7.65 ✦ Claude Fable 5.1, via Atomic Agent: $7.08 Run it through an agent and that cache discount is where the money hides. The loop reads the file, watches it break, and pulls the whole context back in to fix it, over and over. Every one of those re-reads costs a quarter on 5.1 of what it cost on 5. Same games on screen, and the newer version just spends less to get there. Across three builds the loop paid for the upgrade on its own.

My take: it’s a big upgrade from 5.6-Sol, with some frustrating habits that keep it from matching Fable at the top end. Here’s your vibe check: - The best writing model I’ve tried. It’s fast, produces very little slop, and is easy to steer. It’s a good companion for actually working through the writing I do every day. (Not to mention, it one-shotted the first draft of its own vibe check today!) - The computer use is wild. It can go for hours at a time using complicated apps to get work done. It did the first cut of our Fable 5.1 vibe check video...kind of mindblowing - Impressive 3D games and visualizations. It can make beautiful 3D worlds from a single prompt. I one-shotted a historically accurate rendition of the Battle of Waterloo - It can overcomplicate things. (Especially at higher effort levels.) Ask for a simple interface and you get extra labels, buttons, and features everywhere. It has a habit of turning everything into a landing page. It just doesnt quite match Fable's ability to intuitively understand your prompt and do something delightful (without overcomplicating.) Net Result: If you already live in ChatGPT for Work or Codex and can afford it, it’s an easy upgrade from 5.6-Sol. The biggest proof of Astra's effectiveness at helping you do work is our vibe check. We found out it was launching at 3 AM this morning, and had a 4,000 word vibe check + video done by 2 PM. Not possible without this model. I’m reaching for Astra all day, but Fable 5.1 still gets my biggest tasks. On ambitious builds, Fable is better at understanding what I want and taking it further than I would have thought to ask. State of Play: Astra is launching to Enterprise customers today, and the rest of ChatGPT users over the coming days. Something feels seriously off with Claude Fable 5.1 🙄 I recreated the exact same 3D stadium I had built with Fable 5 just to see how much better 5.1 would be. Instead, Fable 5.1 took more than > 1 hour and hit the max limit 2 or 3 times on a single prompt. Fable 5 basically had the whole website ready in one shot and its output was actually much better. Fable 5.1 felt good with metal but added these weird black things that look like basket wings... genuinely have no idea what those are. Not good. And this observation isn’t just for one website. I saw similar behavior with a much simpler hero page where Fable 5.1 maxed out on a single prompt, something I never really experienced with Fable 5 for similar other websites Also, 3D models and animations of that other website also looked noticeably worse compared to what Fable 5 used to produce. Something feels seriously off with Claude Fable 5.1 🙄 I recreated the exact same 3D stadium I had built with Fable 5 just to see how much better 5.1 would be. Instead, Fable 5.1 took more than > 1 hour and hit the max limit 2 or 3 times on a single prompt. Fable 5 basically had the whole website ready in one shot and its output was actually much better. Fable 5.1 felt good with metal but added these weird black things that look like basket wings... genuinely have no idea what those are. Not good. And this observation isn’t just for one website. I saw similar behavior with a much simpler hero page where Fable 5.1 maxed out on a single prompt, something I never really experienced with Fable 5 for similar other websites Also, 3D models and animations of that other website also looked noticeably worse compared to what Fable 5 used to produce. Unity 6 + Opus 4.8 built a Minecraft-style game with just 2 prompts 😱 The first prompt took around 15 minutes. The second prompt took around 40 minutes. I wrote down everything I wanted for the first version, GPT expanded it with more details, and I sent it to Opus. Less than an hour later, I had a playable game. I actually spent more time setting up Unity 6 than building the game itself. It's wild to think about where this is heading. If 2 prompts can do this, imagine what an entire project looks like when every feature is built this way. Congrats to Anthropic. What they're building is incredible.
