Great fireworks 🎇 display down by Dún Laoghaire harbour this evening. Would love to see something like this in the city centre for midnight. Well done to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for organising. Was really well managed. And Happy New Year everyone!

@dlrcc The stress on animals is horrendous. You've no idea.

@dlrcc The NYE celebrations in Dublin City have been pitiful in recent years. I wouldn't even watch it on TV now

@dlrcc Watched it down at Sandycove. Really fantastic pyrotechnic display. More of this please.

@dlrcc Yep well done dlrcc & @Fingalcoco. Shame on @DubCityCouncil another uninspiring Dub Castle show & no fireworks. NYE fireworks are great opportunity to promote capital internationally as well as make people feel good sbout & proud of their city. The bar is just set so low in DCC.

@dlrcc Fireworks should be banned…impact on animals and wildlife is horrific

@dlrcc Fireworks are both harmful to animals and the environment Apart from the co2 implications they release toxins which can remain in the environment for decades Any comment from Cuffe Smyth or Ryan

I wouldn’t get your hopes up that similar will occur in the city centre at midnight

It was my pleasure to join Independent candidate Orli Degani canvassing in Dún Laoghaire. Orli, like me, is part of the 20% of Dubliners who are immigrants working in IT, Education, Healthcare and the Food and Service Industry and contributing greatly to Ireland’s economic success. Orli is Jewish (I’m Muslim). We both come from an immigrant, minority backgrounds and have been welcomed in our home of choice - Dublin. Orli and I both share a strong belief in promoting peace and reconciliation, at home and globally. Like me, and like the majority of Irish people, Orli advocates for the Two-State Solution and calls for an immediate end to the war in Gaza. It was surprising therefore that Orli faced discrimination by the @SocDems when she was removed as their candidate simply because of her background. Orli’s misfortune can still be Dublin’s good fortune if you decide to elect her to the Council. Discrimination has no place in Irish society or politics. Once Catholics were the subject of discrimination. Today or tomorrow it may be another class of people. People like Orli and I have been warmly welcomed in Ireland. Some 1-in-5 Dubliners are immigrants who share this positive experience. Join us in saying no to discrimination, promoting diversity, working towards inclusion and making Dublin the best city it can be. Please vote for Orli Degani in Dún Laoghaire Council and me, Umar Al-Qadri for MEP in Dublin on June 7th. Together, we can build a great and inclusive future for our great city! #Dublin #IrelandForAll #Peace #Reconciliation #Elections #Umar4Dublin #Immigration #Gaza
